Hoi An is the ideal base to explore Central Vietnam from. The city itself is a goldmine of tradition, art and culture and there is something to discover in every cardinal direction.

There is so much more to Hoi An than just Vietnamese cuisine and coffee. During our time in Hoi An, we got to try a great variety of foods. This is a list of restaurants/cafes/boba shops we loved. The aroma of cinnamon and star anise brings back vivid memories of Vietnam, a country that left a lasting impression on my taste buds with its fragrant and intense flavors. The enticing scent of pho was a constant companion as I journeyed through diverse landscapes, hiking through lush rice terraces, weaving through motorbikes on my way to hidden bars — all within one month. We're gonna start on the north of the Vietnam, do the North loop and slowly move to the south of Vietnam.

This is a map of all the places I went to on my 3 month backpacking trip. We flew into Bangkok then island hopped in south Thailand for 2 weeks before flying up to Chiang Mai to explore north Thailand for 2 weeks. Next stop was northern Laos for just over 2 weeks where we got the slow boat from Thailand to Luang Prabang. After Laos was an overnight bus to Hanoi in northern Vietnam where we worked our way down to the south over 3 weeks. Finally finishing in Cambodia for 3 weeks and then bus back to Bangkok to fly home. This map includes recommendations of things to do, places to stay and restaurant recommendations too. I have added in information about the visas, currency, how to get around and important tips and tricks we learnt along the way. You can fit in a lot less than you think when backpacking so this is a realistic map of what is achievable in 3 months.
