Emerald rivers. Glacial lakes. Hidden karsts. Historic cities. Snow-capped peaks. Sun-drenched beaches. Undiscovered wine regions. Untouched forests. You don't have to traipse all over Europe. The little country of Slovenia features everything you love about the continent in one place. So it's even been nicknamed Little Europe.
Start in the Dragon City. Ljubljana survived Roman, Habsburg, and Yugoslavian rule to become one of the greenest capitals in Europe. Then start exploring hidden caves, medieval towns, scenic drives, and a tiny sliver of coastline. There are adventure sports, award-winning restaurants, grand castles, and stunning views along the way. You'll quickly wonder why it's taken you so long to get here.
The Slovenia Guide works as a great circular road trip through Western Slovenia. Start in Ljubljana, drive north toward the Austrian border, head west toward the Italian border, circle through wine country, and end up back in the capital.

There are secret islands in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. Nine of them, actually. The Azores are an autonomous region of Portugal, even though they're nearly 900 miles off the coast of Lisbon. Mount Pico, on the island of Pico, is actually the highest point in the European country. The volcanic archipelago is covered with farmland. Small fishing communities line the coasts. Travelers were first introduced to the remote islands when they became a refueling stop for flights between Europe and North America. Direct flights from Boston and New York eventually followed.
The Azores are finally being discovered by North Americans without Portuguese heritage. It's about time. Ponta Delgada, the little capital, mixes historic buildings with modern hotels and restaurants. São Miguel, the main island, is full of hiking trails and hot springs. Pico Island is famous for its wine. While seven other islands are just waiting to be explored. With mild climate, thanks to the jet stream, the Azores are a year-round destination. Go before the secret gets out.

Ljubljana is the capital and largest city in Slovenia. The Dragon City, which straddles the Ljubljanica River, survived Roman, Habsburg, and Yugoslavian rule to lead the mountainous country into independence. Slovenia has become the Green Heart of Europe, while Ljubljana is one of the greenest capitals on the continent.
This charming city is home to less than 300,000 people. It's a university town, a tech center, and an artist's haven. The Old Town is full of Baroque buildings with red-tiled roofs, detailed bridges, and lively squares. Cafes with terrace seating line the river, which is used by kayakers and sightseeing boats. New hotels, restaurants, and wine bars keep popping up in this car-free area. While Ljubljana Castle stands on a hill overlooking it all.
The compact city is a central base for adventures all over the small country. But best of all: Ljubljana still feels like an under-the-radar destination. Go fall in love with this enchanting city before everyone else catches on.

One of my favourite neighbourhoods in Sydney is Potts Point. A real community spirit and picturesque scene. It offers so much beautiful, art deco architecture that gives the area its distinct character: vintage boutiques, fashion, book stores, gift shops, florists, wine shops, pasticcerias, weekly produce markets, and an abundance of my favourite bars, cafes, wine bars, and restaurants. Once you turn that corner on Darlinghurst Road, you are right in the heart of Kings Cross, home to where the nightlife in Sydney once thrived and is truly set on making a comeback with the nighttime economy focus. Wander down Macleay Street, but don't forget the back streets and laneways are truly where it's at!

There are two major reasons to visit Pico Island: hiking and wine. Though there are trails all over the island, Ponta do Pico is the biggest (literally) draw for hikers. Mount Pico, a dormant stratovolcano, is the highest mountain in not only the Azores, but in all of Portugal. The wine is equally impressive. The vineyards are a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to the basalt stone walls that surround them. So the two reasons to visit Pico Island are very good ones.
Pico Island is in the Azores' Central Group of islands. You can see and easily visit two others, Faial and São Jorge, from here. The Black Island (the black volcanic soil says it all) was discovered in the 14th century, though it wasn't settled until the 1480s. Volcanic eruptions kept deterring people, though. It wasn't until the 18th century that the lava flow ceased, Verdelho grapes started thriving, and whale hunting became popular. Pico found its groove.
Similar to São Miguel, tourists are now flocking to Pico. They're lured by the humid and mild climate, rarely exported wine, bucket-list hikes, and whale-watching trips. Madalena, the tiny main town, blends history and nature on the west coast. While Pico's east coast feels like it's still waiting to be discovered.

Basel is one of the most historic and intiquring cities in Switzerland! We visited this beautiful destination while on our honeymoon during Christmastime, and it quickly became one of our most favorite places we’ve traveled to.
Nestled along the serene banks of the Rhine River, Basel Switzerland weaves a tapestry of history and culture that enchants every visitor with its history. Founded as the settlement Augusta Raurica by the Romans in 44 BC, this ancient town quickly grew into a vital trade nexus, bridging the realms of the Roman Empire with the northern tribes.
Wander through Basel’s medieval core, where cobblestone streets meander past half-timbered houses and charming squares. The Basel Minster, an I’m posting gothic cathedral dominates the skyline with its rose-colored sandstone and twin spires. Inside, intricate carvings and beautiful stained glass tell tales of the city’s spiritual past. The Town Hall, with its vivid red facade and elaborate frescoes, stands as a testament to Basel’s prosperous mercantile history. Here, vibrant markets and lively festivals echo the city’s enduring spirit.
Today, Basel remains a dynamic blend of old-world charm and contemporary flair, where history and modernity coexist in a captivating partnership.
While on our honeymoon in 2022 we visited Basel Switzerland in the middle of wintertime, a couple weeks before Christmas. We fell in love with this city and the magical winter wonderland that it becomes during the festive time of year.
Basel’s Old Town, with its medieval charm is adorned with twinkling lights and shimmering decorations, creating an enchanting backdrop for its renowned Christmas markets. The scent of mulled wine and warm treats wafts through the crisp air, mingling with the magical atmosphere. The Christmas markets’ vibrant atmosphere, coupled with Basel’s rich heritage and history create an unforgettable holiday experience, earning it a place as the crown jewel of Swiss Christmas celebrations.

Home to arguably the best food and wine on earth.
We loved Florence and the beautiful Tuscan vineyards and can't wait to return one day.
You'll find our favorite restaurants, activities, and a few day trips included in this guide.
Here are some travel tips:
1. The trains STOP at around 7PM; so make sure you plan your dinner reservations accordingly. The app you want is called "Trenitalia" - I've included a link to the app under "Day Trips" below.
2. Take all of your normal public safety precautions; pickpocketing and side scams are common.
3. If the gelato is mounded so high it's reaching towards the heavens, it's not for you.
4. If there are waiters outside waving you in with bold English menus, say "no, grazi".
5. Always ask if the establishment accepts credit cards before you order.
6. Prepare to tip your tour guides well, especially if your tour was "Free".
7. Do not pass up on a wine window!! This city's beautiful and unique, hidden gems.

It will come as no surprise that drinking is a big part of the British social life. Every second, the British drink 247 pints of beer and 232 glasses of wine! Across the UK – not just in London – the local pub is often the heart of the community. It is the place colleagues come to unwind after a day at work, the location for long Sunday lunches and great conversation, and the place to catch up with friends and family when you return home. Even if you don’t drink, you should not miss out on immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the “local boozer” on your next trip to the UK.
It has taken over a decade of intensive research to pull together this ultimate London pubs guide… A tough job, but someone had to do it! There is a pub on almost every street in London (over 3500 at last count!), and a snazzy bar on every other, so you are spoilt for choice. The below is a list of my favourites watering holes – from the traditional to the chic – I hope you enjoy!
