The Greek hidden gem
Corfu, known as Kerkyra in Greek, is a stunning island located in the Ionian Sea off the northwest coast of Greece. Its rich history dates back to ancient times, with influences from various cultures including the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, French, and British. This diverse cultural heritage is reflected in the island's architecture, cuisine, and traditions, making Corfu a unique destination in the Mediterranean.
The island's capital, Corfu Town, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, renowned for its elegant Venetian architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, and historic landmarks. The Old Fortress and the New Fortress are prominent features, offering panoramic views of the town and the sea. Corfu Town also boasts numerous museums, such as the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art, which showcase the island's rich history and cultural connections.
Corfu's natural beauty is another major draw for visitors. The island is known for its lush green landscapes, olive groves, and stunning beaches with crystal-clear waters. Some of the most popular beaches include Paleokastritsa, Glyfada, and Sidari, each offering a unique charm and a range of activities from sunbathing to water sports. Inland, the island is dotted with traditional villages, where visitors can experience local customs and hospitality.
In addition to its natural and architectural beauty, Corfu has a vibrant cultural scene. The island hosts various festivals and events throughout the year, celebrating everything from music and dance to religious traditions. The Corfu Easter celebrations are particularly famous, featuring processions, music, and the unique custom of "botides," where clay pots are thrown from balconies to mark the resurrection of Christ. This blend of tradition and festivity provides a lively atmosphere for both locals and tourists.
Corfu's cuisine is another highlight, influenced by its multicultural history. Traditional dishes often feature fresh seafood, locally grown vegetables, and olive oil. Some local specialties include "pastitsada" (a spicy meat stew with pasta), "sofrito" (veal in white wine and garlic sauce), and "bourdeto" (a spicy fish stew). The island's vineyards produce notable wines, and local olive oil is highly prized. Dining in Corfu offers a delightful exploration of flavours and culinary traditions, making it a paradise for food enthusiasts.
Accommodation is an important decision to make prior to planning your route but our firm suggestion is to stay somewhere in the northern part of the island. We chose to stay in Pyramid City Appartments - a budget friendly accommodation is the North-East side with great views to the Albanian coast but very poor connections.
The roads can get very narrow in this side of the isle therefore if you're not comfortable driving in other countries and with rental cars you're better off staying near Paleokastritsa with very good connections but less relax.

I could never understand why people raved about Paris so much, until I went back more than once and slowly started to appreciate its beauty. Having been there in all the seasons, I can finally say: Paris mon amour.
Is it messy? Yes! Is it chaotic? Yes! But it's also beautiful, charming, romantic, and there's always something going on of course. If you don't like it the first time then don't give up, give it another go.

1. J'aime pas conduire de nuit (je suis partie les deux fois en hiver) ;
2. Je suis couillonne de conduire à gauche ;
- Au départ d'Inverness : Skye & Eilean Donan Castle & The Complete Loch Ness Experience

A real crush !
Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is a city of unique charm, combining history, culture and modernity. Known for its impressive medieval architecture and picturesque cobbled streets, it has a majestic yet welcoming atmosphere. Dominated by its famous castle, perched on a volcanic rock, Edinburgh is full of historic monuments, fascinating museums and breathtaking natural landscapes, such as Arthur's Seat, an ancient volcanic hill offering panoramic views over the city.
Its contrasting neighbourhoods, from the historic Royal Mile to the stylish Georgian New Town, reflect the city's rich history, while offering a thriving food and arts scene.
I had the opportunity to admire Edinburgh's beauty on two occasions. On a solo citytrip and then on my train trip to Scotland, where I ended my trip in the capital.
On my two trips, I decided not to hire a car because:
1. I don't like driving at night (I went both times in winter);
2. I'm a coward for driving on the left;
3. I'm stressed about narrow roads (even though I've driven on mountain roads in Crete).
So I chose Rabbie's (https://www.rabbies.com) for three day trips:
- From Edinburgh: Loch Lomond National Park, Kelpies & Stirling Castle
- From Inverness: Skye & Eilean Donan Castle & The Complete Loch Ness Experience

Ultimate Copenhagen Guide: Everything you need to know when going to Copenhagen
Welcome to my city!
I created the ultimate guide with more than 200 selected things to do, see and taste as a result of more than 21 years living in this city.
When people think of Denmark, they often picture the statue of the little mermaid, Tivoli amusement park and lots of bikes. And while Copenhagen is all of that, there’s also much more to the city.
Included are the best places to see between:
- Castles
- Churches
- Parks
- Hidden gems
- Museums & Galleries
- Panoramic points
- Best restaurants, unique cafes, street food, brunch
- Suggested itineraries
& more
Here you'll also find general information of the city, how to get around, what not to do and frequently asked questions, as well as suggested itineraries.
Do you have any question? Send me a DM on Instagram @worldofsofiab or an email to world.of.sofiab@gmail.com
Happy exploring!
*** Disclosure:
For attractions, I provide GetYourGuide and Booking.com links where possible. I myself love the vendors as you can keep all your tickets/stays in one place (even better with the Copenhagen card), you also get instant confirmation and can cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before your planned activity/stay - this is a major benefit in a city like Copenhagen where the weather can dictate your itinerary.
Using the links provided also help me as a small business, as I make a small commission with no additional charge to you!

I have put way more places and addresses in this guide than it is possible to do over the course of 3 days, so that depending on your taste and travel style, you can choose across a wide variety of things to do and see. The places tagged (82) have, for nearly all of them, links attached to them for further history context or link to website for restaurants.
