Explore Porto
Tower of Clerics
This spot is genuinely amazing, at the beginning it showed off some local art which was created from found items and recreated, it took you through the stunning church where a man was playing the organ and up the tight stairs until you reached some of the most spectacular views of Porto. All while learning some of Porto's interesting history, but I won't spoil that.
This location is busy most of the day as it is popular and small, but the earlier you can arrive the better, as you can book a time and reach the top first.
Pasteis de Natas!!
After a long day of walking - or just to treat yourself, make sure you stop by and treat yourself to a Pasteis de Nata!! At this stop, you can watch them creating the delicious treat through a window while you eat as many as you can. I recommend waiting until a new batch comes out or asking for the freshest ones to make sure yours is still warm!
Bolsa Palace
It's easy to book and fun to learn, this guided tour is so incredible and helpful in gaining insights into Portuguese royalty. The guides are fun friendly, and not boring! You'll even learn about the combination of religions that create something beautiful.
Dinner along the Douro River
And don't forget to try the desserts! The Madeira Banana Cake Caramel and Sea Salt will definitely leave you feeling extra satisfied.
Make sure you get in early, there's often a queue waiting outside!
Porto Cathedral and Episcopal Palace of Porto
A lot of history can be found here, and while you don't need to go into both areas, they're both interesting. You can buy tickets for both, the Bishop's palace is particularly beautiful as well.
An Expensive Dinner Out
The service was elegant, and the food was just incredible. Between the scallop risotto and the octopus tartare, you were just in heaven at this Michelin-star restaurant.
Sao Bento Station
If you're arriving into Porto by train, there's a high chance you will arrive here, if not I would highly recommend making your way over there, the artwork is just breathtaking with wall to wall depictions of Porto history.
Magical International Bookstore
This bookstore is something you can't miss when coming to Porto, even if you don't like reading, the store has some incredibly designed weaving staircases and truly magnificent interior structure. However, if you do like reading, this place will make sure you've hit the jackpot!
Brunch!
Nicolau Porto is a great place to head if you're looking for a quick meal or a lengthy coffee. It provides a social aspect or a place where you can get some work done. Matched with some great food and drinks.
NOLA Kitchen!! This place had me returning nearly every day, the drinks were perfectly made, and they had plenty of veggie options to choose from. All of the dishes were organic and the staff were super helpful when you needed to make a choice.
O Diplomata was small but mighty, the meals were large but perfect for any sweet tooth. They did also have some incredible savory options for those who didn't feel like reducing into a delicious sugary coma!
Let's go vintage shopping!
Douro Valley
If you have the time, make sure to spend a day out in the Douro Valley to sample some delicious reds, and of course, try the amazing Port they have in the region. This is after all the home of Port wine. The drive into the Valley is gorgeous and the scenery is just breathtaking. Don't forget your camera, your phone, or even just to look out the window!
Wine Tasting
If you don't have time to go out to Douro Valley, we will bring Douro Valley to you. This is one of the most well-known wineries, of course there are many others in the same area so I would recommend doing your research (or just getting me to do it for you!) to discover which one has the best one to suit your tastebuds!
An Immersive Museum Experience
If you're bored of regular museums, and the usual sightseeing, I would HIGHLY recommend seeing this place. The area is huge and includes park areas, a tree top walk, a farm, a mushroom exhibit, crazy immersive art spaces, and some unique architecture. This is something you don't want to miss, so I would highly recommend spending as much of a day as possible at this museum!
The Sunset Spot.
Yes, this may be busy, but this sunset spot is a social spot of its' own. With beer being sold and great music being played, there's no better spot to wind down after a long day of sightseeing. And of course, the bridge is right next door, you will either have to cross it to get there or wander over it five times a day to see the sights on the other side!
Stays - Hostels
These are just a few options, but I would recommend jumping on Hostel World and checking out the reviews and prices. That way you can make a decision based on what you'd like to do.
