Egypt has an incredible amount of sites and experiences, but the excitement and joy of exploring the world’s oldest civilization and the greatest marvels created by man can sometimes be overshadowed by the burden it may have on the Environment. This guide takes you through hotels that follow a more sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to make your experience in Egypt a more relieving one. For a more guilt-free and environmentally conscious stay in Egypt, selecting hotels that prioritize sustainability can significantly enhance your travel experience. Environmentally friendly hotels in Egypt focus on minimizing their ecological footprint through practices such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, and water conservation. These accommodations often incorporate sustainable design elements, support local communities, and offer green certifications that reflect their commitment to preserving the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the region. By choosing such hotels, travelers can enjoy their stay with peace of mind, knowing they are contributing to responsible tourism and supporting efforts to protect Egypt’s unique environment. This is done through the "Green Star Hotel" Program, Egypt's Initiative for Sustainable Tourism Certification The Green Star Hotel (GSH) program is Egypt's national green certification and capacity-building initiative, overseen by the Egyptian Hotel Association (EHA) with the support of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism. This program provides hotels in Egypt with the opportunity to gain international recognition for enhancing their environmental practices and social standards while also lowering operational expenses. Participating hotels receive guidance from a team of certified national and international experts through a series of training sessions and informational support, culminating in field audits to verify adherence to program standards before awarding the GSH certification. GSHP directly supports the following goals of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth. SDG 11: Sustainable Cities & Communities. SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production. SDG 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change & its impacts. SDG 14: Life below water. Please find below for your ease, the list of Green Star certified hotel in Cairo. It's time to get out of the city. New York City is always exciting, but it can be completely exhausting. You need to breathe fresh air and stretch your legs. You want to hike up a mountain, jump into a lake, search for waterfalls, sip seasonal IPAs, taste freshly picked veggies, and try to ski for the first time in, well, way too long. It's a good thing the Catskill Mountains are so close. The Catskills are part of the Appalachian Mountains. They cover nearly 6,000 square miles in southeastern New York and sit about 100 miles northeast of New York City. On the eastern edge, the mountains rise steeply from the Hudson Valley along the Hudson River. The area became a popular summer escape in the mid-20th century. All-season, outdoor activities--from fishing and hiking to cross-country skiing and snowboarding--are now the biggest draws. Old lodges and motels are being turned into boutique hotels. Plus, in the last few years, new bakeries, bike paths, bookstores, breweries, coffee shops, farm-to-table restaurants, ice cream shops, and record stores have been popping up on a seemingly weekly basis. The Catskills are cool again. Since it's impossible to see everything in the Catskills during one trip, this guide focuses on the Northern Catskills, including the towns of Catskill, Hunter, Palenville, and Windham. This detailed guide includes: Places: hamlets, towns, villages Stay: cabins, hotels, lodges Eat: bagels, cafes, pizzerias, restaurants Drink: breweries, cideries Shop: farm stands, record stores Do: forests, gardens, hikes, lakes, ledges, lookouts, mountains, rocks, trails, waterfalls Transportation: parking lots Note: I travel to the Catskills frequently, so this guide will be updated.
