Planning a trip here and looking for tried and tested recommendations as well as some other ideas that came from hoursssss of research? I've got you covered!
I read countless blogs written by Copenhagen locals and they led me to these lovely places, activities etc. Happy perusing 😊
My boyfriend and I loved this hotel! We didn't spend a lot of time here but it had everything we were looking for - positive reviews, high quality but affordable, spa for unwinding at the end of the day, and bikes for hire to get around town easily. Absolutely recommend :)

EAT & DRINK
Restaurants
From sustainable omakase to quintessentially Scandinavian tasting menus - there are so many incredible eating spots to choose from! Check out my guide below for a list of recommendations. At the time of writing, all have at least a 4 out of 5 on Google Maps - a benchmark that hasn't yet led me astray ♥️
Copenhagen is known for its amazing pastries and a visit isn't complete without trying one at the very least! These came highly recommended - two of them I've tried and the others are at the top of my list to visit when I go back next 😊
Anywhere that has a chef that's come from Noma will immediately excite me and get bookmarked - and this place is no exception. Apparently there are long lines on Saturday mornings for Hart's freshly-baked bread and pastries!
This bakery was recommended the most and I can see why - it can't be missed. The cardamon bun (which they're famous for) is fresh from the oven, melt in your mouth, out of this world delicious! Expect a line but it moves quickly and is definitely worth the wait. A great place to fuel while on a bike ride around the city too.
Apparently hot dog stands really are a thing here, and this came up as a higher-end, organic option that's won tons of awards. Located on the pedestrianised shopping street Strøget, this could make for a great bite in between stores!
A cute little coffee shop right on the corner of the King's Garden by Rosenborg Castle. Apparently there are 15 different kinds of coffee for the real aficionados :)
Isn't it so great when there are brilliant looking and sounding snack spots in a cool shopping area? While shopping and perusing down Jægersborggade, this looks like the spot to swing in for ice cream! They offer 5 flavours at a time and you can get them in a homemade cardamon waffle!
Copenhagen is the 4th most bike-friendly city in the world and it absolutely shows. There are cycle lanes everywhere, the theft rate is low and there are even "no car days" in the capital.
Biking is the best way to get around - especially if you'll only be visiting for a short amount of time - so I create this custom circular cycle route to see the best of this Scandinavian beauty.
This route will take you to historic parts, different neighbourhoods to get a flavour of the city, and of course, includes stops for local treats and sips! And if you're in Copenhagen in the winter than this also includes three Christmas markets!
Perhaps the most iconic spot in the city. The combination of the colourful houses, canal and old boats make Nyhavn a beautiful sight and place to walk around. And a lovely place to see the city's harbour and canals by foot or bike.
This looks and sounds absolutely brilliant!
An electric boat that you can rent to explore the harbour and canals around Copenhagen and see the beautiful city from the water. The small boats seat up to 8 people and include a large table in the middle so you can bring food and refreshments for a picnic on the go! And maybe the best news of all - it's dog friendly :)
This was closed when I was there otherwise I absolutely would have booked it.
An impressively huge glass greenhouse in the centre of town. It's free to head inside where you can meander around to admire the country's largest collection of plants, trees, shrubs and herbs in the country.
A lovely open park that's home to the 17th century Rosenborg Castle - now a royal museum where you can see historic artefacts like the country's Crown Jewels. Quite a few of the park paths closest to it are for walking only, so we admired the view with our bikes in tow until we were able to get back on our bikes to cycle through the rest of the gardens.
Perhaps one of the most famous parts of Copenhagen besides Nyhavn. Tivoli Gardens is a national treasure that inspired and led to the development of Disney World. There is soooo much to see here and expect it to be quite busy.
A buzzy and hip street in the city's Nørrebro neighbourhood that's lined with cafés, art galleries, vintage clothing shops, wine bars, and ceramics and jewellery stores. Coffee Collective, Grød, Istid and Meyers Bageri came recommended for snacks and bites if you fancy one while you're there!
A huge covered market hall where you can find lots of take home and prepare yourself meals, food to eat in the halls or ready-made to-go options that are sustainable and organic.
The official residence of the Danish royal family. A beautiful circular area with a few buildings to admire. Makes for some lovely photos - especially while on your bike.
A unique neighbourhood in the heart of the city - a military base that turned into a breakaway anarchist commune in the early 1970s. It's an interesting area to walk around in the day. I'd put your camera away and refrain from taking photos though out of respect for the residents since this is one of the rules they ask visitors to obey.
A fine art museum that holds the private collection of Carl Jacobsen, the son of the founder of Carlsberg Breweries. Apparently it's definitely worth a visit!
Because doesn't it make total sense to visit a museum dedicated to happiness in a city and country that regularly tops the World Happiness Index list? :)
I'm all about sharing helpful travel tips widely, which is why I've kept this guide and so many others free for you to access at anytime. However, these do take quite a bit of time to make, so I'd really appreciate a little love and support.
Welcome to my page! 👋🏼
When I was 17, I packed my bags and left everything familiar I had ever known in my hometown of Toronto to move to Switzerland. That year away changed so much for me and had such a meaningful influence on my life, outlook and perspective.
And the travel bug has been with me ever since. So after visiting nearly 50 countries, living in four, and collecting 20 years worth of adventures, lessons and insights, I’m eager to channel all of that into helping others plan their travels.
