Discovering Copenhagen: Your Essential Itinerary
Denmarks Capital
Copenhagen is a remarkable city with beautiful sights and great museums/palaces to visit.
It’s worth to add this city to your travel and spend minimum 2 nights there. If there is a chance stay one extra day to visit the castles near Copenhagen.
🥶Exploring Copenhagen during the European summer may promise sunny days and warm breezes, but don't underestimate the unpredictable Nordic weather. My experience taught me that even in the midst of July or August, a sudden cold front can catch you off guard. That's why I always recommend packing a good jacket.
💳While the official currency is the Danish krone, many places operate on a cashless system, accepting only card payments. To streamline your travel preparations, it's wise not to exchange too much cash and instead have a contactless card handy.
Where to stay?
By staying in areas like the historic center of Indre By or the trendy district of Vesterbro, you'll have easy access on foot or by bike to the city's most iconic sights. From the bustling Nyhavn harbor to the majestic Amalienborg Palace, you can explore Copenhagen's charms conveniently without relying on public transportation.
Additionally, these areas are packed with restaurants, cafes, and shops, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in local life.
Copenhagen Card
The Copenhagen Card provides free admission to over 80 museums and attractions in the city, including iconic landmarks like Tivoli Gardens, the National Museum of Denmark, and the Round Tower. It also includes unlimited access to the city's extensive public transportation network, including buses, trains, and the Metro.
What's more, the Copenhagen Card offers discounts on various tours, activities, and restaurants throughout the city, helping you save even more money during your stay.
Tours
Walking tour Copenhagen
What I love most about walking tours is their flexibility – they give you a taste of everything the city has to offer, allowing you to decide which sites you want to explore further on your own. Whether it's revisiting a historic landmark, indulging in local cuisine, or simply soaking up the atmosphere of a bustling market square, the choice is yours.
Canal Tour
No doubt, one experience you absolutely can't miss in Copenhagen is the canal tour. As you glide past colorful houses, historic landmarks, and bustling waterfronts, you'll be treated to panoramic views that you simply can't get from land. From the iconic Little Mermaid statue to the modern marvels of the Copenhagen Opera House, each landmark tells a story that's best appreciated from the water.
Tip: if you are visiting different cities choose only 1 boat tour.
Must see landmarks
In the following section, I'll outline the must-visit places in Copenhagen. The advantage is that entrance fees are included with the Copenhagen Card.

Breakfast and lunch
Copenhagen is renowned for its vibrant coffee culture and delectable pastries, making it a haven for food and beverage enthusiasts.
Freshly baked Danish pastry, such as the iconic cinnamon swirl known as "kanelsnegl" or the flaky, almond-filled "kringle."
Extra day?
If you have an extra day to spare, don't miss the opportunity to visit two other magnificent castles: Kronborg and Frederiksborg.
Kronborg Castle, famously known as the setting for Shakespeare's 'Hamlet,' is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the charming town of Helsingør.
Frederiksborg Castle, situated in the picturesque town of Hillerød, is a breathtaking example of Danish Renaissance architecture.
