"If you're looking for a great view of Copenhagen (and farther to Sweden) we think this is the best paid-entry view in the city. Just be sure you aren't afraid of heights. You can climb to the very top of the church's spire on the EXTERIOR staircase - yes, on the outside of the building. The golden spire is a staircase that you can access (weather permitting). Your entry includes a video lesson on the history of the church and its roll in the city as you ascend to the finale - walking to the top of the gilded spire! Fun fact, the walk to the tippy-top is 400 steps and the spire was inaugurated in 1752! NOTE: Although you can enter the church for free, you pay to climb the tower and there is ALWAYS a long line - you really need to book a time slot in advance even with the Copenhagen Card (which grants you free entry). "The Church of Our Savior is a baroque church in Copenhagen, Denmark, which belongs to the Church of Denmark. It is famous for its spiral spire with an external spiral staircase that can be used to climb to the top, where it offers wide views over the city center. The construction, conceived to serve as the main temple to Christianshavn (now a district of Copenhagen), was designed by Lambert van Haven in the Dutch baroque style, began in 1682 and was inaugurated in 1696. Its characteristic spire was built between 1749 and 1752 by Laurids of Thurah, inspired by the church of Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza in Rome. The church is also notable for its carillon, which is the largest in northern Europe; its altar, a masterpiece by Nicodemus Tessin, and its imposing baroque organ."
"Our Saviors’ Church was completed in 1696 and the tower 56 years later in 1752. The outside of the tower has a spiral staircase with 400 steps which you can climb all the way to the top. At the top of the tower is a three-meter tall, golden figure of Christ. Christ is holding a victory flag which symbolizes the final victory of Christianity in Europe in the 17th century. During the Second World War, the Danish Resistance Movement used the tower as a hiding spot for weapons and explosives, which was never discovered by the Germans. To climb the tower you have to book a time-slot through billetto.dk Opening hours: Opening hours are daily from 9am to 8pm. Entrance is €9 and free with the Copenhagen Card. "
