If you're a nature lover visiting the city of Stockholm, you can enjoy the best of both worlds by staying at a waterfront hotel, surrounded by nature. And you can even take the ferry there, if you know where to stay! I love taking the ferry from the inner city -- home, and to the archipelago beyond. So I've made a guide with a few hotels along the inlet to Stockholm, if you also want to treat yourself. I've chosen hotels and B & B/hostels with gorgeous water views -- easily accessible by ferry* -- along the inlet to Stockholm. We start on a hostel ship in the very heart of Stockholm, across the pond from the Royal Castle, and end at a hotel on a small islet that's actually an old military fort. Because I live near Stockholm's inlet, myself, I've not needed to stay at hotels, but I've chosen stays in naturally beautiful locations that I like to visit myself, and where I know the docks* well. Columbus is the second largest city in Georgia, and is adjacent to Ft. Benning, home of the Infantry and the sixth largest military installation in the world. Both lie on the border of the Chattahoochee River across from Alabama. Parts of Ft. Benning even extend into Alabama. I spent the vast majority of my life living in Columbus as the daughter of a career Army serviceman, so I know both locations extremely well. Maybe you're traveling through on your way somewhere or you have a military family member "turning blue," and you're here for the ceremony, either way this guide will lead you to the high spots Columbus & Ft. A guide to a variety of climbing gyms located across the U.S. separated by state and Canada, Mexico and France. Activities range from bouldering, top rope, lead and much more! Day passes are available at each location, often include their daily classes and access to their workout gym space. Additionally, some climbing gyms offer additional discounts for students, military members, seniors and early morning climbs. Be sure to check out each locations website to see what each gym offers to maximize your experience. This is by no means an all extensive list of climbing gyms across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and France but ones I have personally visited while working in various states, cities and countries. San Diego is a great place to shop, but if you’re not interested in cheap Old Town souveniers, sidewalk bracelets or pricey things at Fashion Valley, why not try a more sustainable option - Thrift Shops! This is a list of thrift shops and consignment shops where you can find antiques, mid century modern furniture, upcycled items, and other treasures. Many of these shops benefit charities and most have a military discount of up to 10% in addition to other promotions.

Carlsbad is a golf and spa lover’s dream. Only 1.5hrs from Los Angeles or 45 minutes from San Diego, you can enjoy all that in a weekend. This guide is designed as a bit of a parents weekend away for us, but could also be used as a staycation or a weekend trip for non-parents or even girls trips! We saw several baby showers and other families there while we were on the property. Spending some time on the gulf? Check out this itinerary. We packed our quick trip across 3 states, military history, bird watching, food, and southern hospitality. Even had time for some alligator tours and art gallery hopping with our hurricanes. Car required- we drove along the coast of Alabama and Mississippi before arriving back in New Orleans.

Here's a suggested itinerary for your short stay: This lively historic city has plenty to see and do, including museums, parks, theaters, shopping complexes, and a profusion of eateries. Manila, the Philippines' capital, is a heavily populated bayside metropolis on the island of Luzon that combines Spanish colonial architecture and modern skyscrapers. Intramuros, a colonial-era walled city, is the core of Old Manila. The baroque 16th-century San Agustin Church and Fort Santiago, a storied castle and former military prison, can be found here. Please note that this is a condensed itinerary for a short 2-day visit to Manila. The city has many more attractions to offer, so if you have additional time, consider exploring areas like Chinatown, and Divisoria for shopping, or visiting other museums and parks. Also, be mindful of Manila's traffic, especially during rush hours, so plan your activities accordingly.

This one is for all you military folks moving back and forth from San Diego (or Ventura) CA to Norfolk, VA. This guide also works in reverse if you are moving west. The overall route takes Highways 8, 10, 20, 85, 58, and 264. Google says this is the fastest and most fuel efficient route. Each driving day will be approximately ~6 hours. 2,703 miles, 8 days. If you’re into travel hacking try to pick one hotel chain to stick with. I have one Hilton family hotel and one Marriott family hotel for each destination, as well as a La Quinta hotel because they are great for traveling with pets and generally a cheaper option. If you’re down for longer drives and want to arrive more quickly you can skip Sweetwater and/or Raleigh.
