Columbus/ Ft. Benning, Georgia
Rhonda Glisson (Time Travel)
Columbus is the second largest city in Georgia, and is adjacent to Ft. Benning, home of the Infantry and the sixth largest military installation in the world. Both lie on the border of the Chattahoochee River across from Alabama. Parts of Ft. Benning even extend into Alabama.
I spent the vast majority of my life living in Columbus as the daughter of a career Army serviceman, so I know both locations extremely well. Maybe you're traveling through on your way somewhere or you have a military family member "turning blue," and you're here for the ceremony, either way this guide will lead you to the high spots Columbus & Ft. Benning have to offer.
I also include many of the photos I took at each place.

The National Infantry Museum
@rhondaglisson
The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center opened in 2009 on Ft. Benning, with one guiding mission: to honor the legacy and valor of the U.S. Army Infantryman. If you have any ties to the military or just love the history this is an incredible museum. It's been named one of the top 12 military museums in the world. You can easily spend a few hours here. Great family destination.

Callaway Resort & Gardens
@rhondaglisson
I have been going to Callaway Gardens since I was a very young child. It is an award-winning, 2,500-acre gardens and resort nestled in the southernmost foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Callaway is only about 30 minutes North of Columbus. You can easily spend an entire day here with Robin Lake, the Day Butterfly Center, the chapel in the woods, and so much more. This is a must do while you're in the area.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Rhonda Glisson (Time Travel)
I am a traveler who loves to research and a researcher who loves to travel. I spend untold hours, days and even weeks researching my next destination. I pick destinations that peak my interest--most are ocean or wildlife related. One was taking off to Churchill, MB, at the bottom of the Arctic Circle, for the annual Beluga Whale migration--all by myself. That's just me, I do most of my traveling solo. I also love photography and have my camera with me every step of the way. I spent most of my life living in Georgia, but now I live in the gorgeous Ozark Mountains of Arkansas.
