I travelled to the wonderful Isle of Skye in Scotland, visiting the Loch Ness and Inverness on the way, on a budget and without a car: pretty challenging but definitely doable if well optimised !
This is the general program, tried and true;
- Day 1️⃣: stop at a castle on the famous Loch Ness and maybe spot Nessie !
- Day 2️⃣: a full day on the Isle of Skye, staying in Portree, with an adventure to the Old Man of Storr
- Day 3️⃣: visiting Inverness on the way back
This guide will also include:
- how to go to the Isle of Skye, travelling from the south of Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow or Dundee) by bus
- a place to stay at (which I personally tried) and other possible recommandations, and places to eat
- made for students/travellers on a budget (around £170/person, and way less if you are under 22 and live in Scotland)
- an interactive map with all the locations attached.
Enjoy this guide with my own photos as illustrations !

Scotland - the land of iconic views, food, and a FANTASTIC campervanning destination. We campervanned here for two weeks with this itinerary and had such an amazing experience. This guide covers 14 days and a whole lot of campervanning - get ready for a roadtrip! It covers the following destinations:
- Glencoe
- Isle of Skye
- NC500
- The Cairngorms
- Aberdeen
- Edinburgh
- Glasgow
& MANY destinations and things to do in between these major stops.
For some places it includes restaurants (but not all, as it's a campervanning itinerary so you'll likely be cooking most of your meals), lots of adventure (hikes, views, and activities), where to stay (parking your campervan is SO easy in Scotland we've included where to look for camping spots and also included campervan sites to hook up to for each spot), and inside intel on what you should know before you visit.
This itinerary is for the adventurous and people who want to get BUSY during their time here to see as much as possible. It includes quite a bit of driving and lots of activities. Whilst this itinerary is jam-packed, you can easily choose what you want from each day to give you more downtime, and spread some of the activities over multiple days to cut down on your driving time - it's very easily manipulated to suit your needs.

Welcome to the Isle of Skye! Portree is a central stop to access all the beauty and nature. I have a few hotels suggestions. Make sure you're lodging has breakfast because there are few breakfast selections. Parking is an issue! Make sure you read all the signs and park in the appropriate locations. To see all the famous sightseeing attractions, there are two loops you can drive and see all the beautiful natural scenery. You will probably want at least two days here to see all the amazing sights. I've also suggested a lovely selection of restaurants and more casual pubs. Make sure you make reservations especially in the summertime.

Our five absolute favourite spots in Scotland. We spend two weeks road tripping around almost the entire mainland, and whilst we saw SO MUCH there are always those few places that stick with you. It's hard to narrow it down to just a few, but here are our top five Scotland favourites!

As a teenager, I visited Scotland for a few days, and that in addition to Outlander binge watching ended up with me moving to Edinburgh next year. I spent a few years living there and falling more and more in love with the country. The only problem was that it was my university years which meant a tight budget but still the need to explore. So this guide is a summary of a few years of budget travel in Scotland and what I think it's the best compromise between budget and exploring everything this magical country has to offer.
⛰️ This guide will help you plan your perfect Scotland trip - on a budget and without a car. The base of this trip is a loop which you can start in either Glasgow or Edinburgh and which will take you 8 days. Then, at every stop, I'll give you some day trip options so that you can extend your trip depending on what you want to see and how much time you have. If you go for all-day trips this full itinerary will take 17 days.
💷 I'll give you a full breakdown of the cost. The basic loop will require around 210£ for all transport and accommodation. I'll provide you with a spreadsheet that breaks down each cost and each day trip so you can also plan and adjust your trip according to your budget. I'll also share with you accommodation recommendations and a breakdown of all the buses/trains you'd need to take.

Hey, Sweet Thang!!
Thanks for choosing my shop to help you have a fantastic road trip to Scotland! This was stop 3 on our 8-weeks of fun backpacking trip, aka our quarter-life crisis trip. My best friend and I hit the highlands and then partied hard in Edinburgh. Even though the weather was not in our favor, we still had a wonderful time.

Edinburgh's appeal leaves nobody aside. I reached Edinburgh to seek peace from my break-up!.. Whilst I was greeted by gloomy weather like my life at that point, the sun and people finally came out and showed me a good time. (yay)
...Regardless of the weather, this city is quite stunning and takes you back in time by making you feel like moving here to Dean's Village, Oh my what a little quaint pretty place or into the sets of one of those historic UK crime-thriller shows!
What does this Guide consist of?:
📑A day-by-day, 3-day itinerary. (You can use it as per your likes, it covers all the main and then some personal picks of the place.)
