Lisbon is one of those cities that I know we’ll keep going back to throughout our lives. This beautiful city has so much to offer. The hills are a huge part of the charm, the views from so many different locations are breathtaking. The tile buildings here are beautiful and so unique. The trolleys and funiculars add to the experience and make traversing the city so much fun. The food is excellent, there are so many options, and so much to see. It is easy to understand why Lisbon is a popular place of residence for expats from all over the world, we could actually see ourselves living in Lisbon some day, too. I have been to Lisbon multiple times so I have a lot of recommendations here!  Hopefully you can pick and choose what suits you best on your stay in Lisbon! The things I've listed should give you more than enough to do for a few days. This guide will include everything I've personally done in Lisbon with honest details about each location. I will also list some wish-list spots in a section at the end that includes things that I still haven't done yet in Lisbon that I have planned and researched and hope to do on a future visit.

The magnificent tile! It’s hard to resist falling in love with the azulejos (tiles) adorning the buildings of Lisbon. It seems cliché and obvious, but those tiles are ubiquitous and will overwhelm you with the sheer number of façades. Only a cold heart is impervious to their charm. And, most can be easily viewed from street level -- even while pushing a stroller. You will see tiles everywhere you go. So, it almost seems silly to suggest a tile walking route because any walking route automatically becomes a de facto tile walking route just by virtue of being in Lisbon! It would be like suggesting a blue sky walk, or a bacalhau restaurant walk – it will automatically happen! Instead, EFTF has highlighted a few areas in which to pay extra attention to the tiles. These areas can be folded into a day’s itinerary or be the target of a special trip by an especially smitten family member. These are presented in descending order of appropriateness for children. It’s not that tiles aren’t appropriate for children; it’s more that kids aren’t doing cartwheels in excitement for them. And as we move down this list, the tiles can be within a child’s reach – breakable!

There are dozens of refreshment kiosks (quiosques) scattered around Lisbon serving coffee, beer, wine, classic drinks and an array of snacks or bites – no two kiosks menus are exactly alike. Ponta Delgada is the capital of the Azores. "Thin Cape" sits on the southwest shore of São Miguel Island, the largest island in the autonomous archipelago. The city was a small fishing village until a 1522 earthquake destroyed Vila Franca do Campo, the island's original capital. Ponta Delgada quickly got an upgrade. Its economy and size grew with the citrus-exporting business. Black-and-white basalt buildings--a bell tower, churches, squares--still fill the city's historic core. New gourmet restaurants and waterfront bars do, too. It's easy to get to know Ponta Delgada by walking, as the narrow streets all eventually lead down to the large marina.
