Évora, a day walk

Évora, a day walk

A World Heritage site, Évora is one of the most iconic cities in the Alentejo region. With more than 400 historic buildings and registering more than 2 millennia of human occupation, it is said that if you step into a loose stone of one of its streets, you risk finding an archaeological treasure. Let's travel through times as we walk the cobbled stone streets of this unique portuguese southern city.

Praça do Giraldo
@silviaromao
We start our walk in the heart of Évora. Giraldo's Square is bursting with sidewalk cafés and shops. Right in the middle of the square there is a beautiful marble fountain. If get close to it, you can count 8 spouts. They represent the 8 streets that lead to this place. The wide arches offer shelter and coolness during the summer extremely hot days. At one of the tops, there is Santo Antão Church, with its pristine white walls.

Templo Romano Évora
@silviaromao
This roman temple might not be the biggest one, but it's amazingly beautiful. For many centuries it was thought to be dedicated to the goddess Diana. But later investigations proved it to be wrong. Because of that, most of the locals still call it Diana's temple.
