A Weekend in a Uruguayan coastal town
Colonia del Sacramento is one of the most beautiful, historic, and pleasantly surprising cities in the region. It is known for its unique colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and stunning views of the Rio de la Plata. I was surprised to find that Colonia was founded by Portuguese settlers in the late 1600's, and is considered to be the oldest city in Uruguay. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a city full of charm and history, known for its picturesque colonial architecture, with influences from Portuguese, Spanish, and Brazilian.
I spent 40 hours in Colonia del Sacramento and want to give you the best insights for what to do in a day trip or a weekend in this Uruguayan coastal town.
I'll offer tips on both what to do and where to eat, as well as general tips for spending time in Uruguay.

⚠️ About security:
Rio is effervescent. You can hear lot of things about danger here. It’s true, but as it is in every other big cities. As a Parisian, I wasn’t that much impressed.
Of course you have to be careful, but it’s all about commun sense.
- Do not film peoples or anything without autor in the favela.
- Do not show off & act chill.
- Do not drink to much, always keep your mind clear.
- Always keep a bit of cash with you in case someone tries to robe you.
- Please try to help the peoples around you & local economy. For exemple if you need a bottle of water or gums. it’s better to buy it from someone in the street than in a supermarket.
If you give respect, you receve respect.
Brazilian are some of the most welcoming peoples I’ve ever met.

To avoid the neverending crowds, here is a list of the best 12 things to do in Venice that will allow you to uncover the authentic side of the city, because a lot of visitors who are new to this city often find themselves spending a greater amount of time navigating through crowds rather than discovering the real Venice.
Authentic Venice refers to the true essence of the city, its rich history, and its unique culture that has been preserved for centuries. It is characterized by the charming, narrow streets and canals that wind through the city, the stunning architecture of its buildings, the traditional Venetian cuisine, and the local customs and way of life. Authentic Venice is a place where visitors can immerse themselves in the genuine atmosphere of the city and experience its true character.
During your visit to Venice, it’s essential to explore the popular tourist attractions such as St. Mark’s Square and St. Mark’s Basilica, as well as take a gondola tour through the enchanting canals. However, by exploring the non-touristy activities listed below, you may discover some hidden gems in Venice that you were previously unaware of and avoid the large tourist crowds.

Madeira is a paradise on earth. The once volcanic islands create lush and beautiful mountains. The main city on the island - Funchal - is home to 300,000 people whose homes cascade down the hillside into the Atlantic Ocean. Breathtaking, stunning, and one of the most pleasant places you can visit in all of Europe.
The city of Funchal is a mix of colonial style architecture (more typical of Brazil than Portugal) and modern pockets dedicated to the tourism industry. Regardless of where you find yourself, you'll find a beautiful view of the mountains.
This guide is perfect to see the main sites of Funchal. Whether you are stopping on a cruise and only have a day, you are adding a few days on the island to a trip to Portugal, or you are just going for the weekend, this guide provides a bunch of the highlights to be seen in and around the city.
