Porto, situated along the Douro River in northern Portugal, is a city known for its rich history, distinctive architecture, and beautiful "azulejos" (tiles). The UNESCO World Heritage site features a historic center with narrow cobblestone streets and colorful buildings.
Porto is renowned for its port wine, with cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia offering tastings. The city's culinary scene, offering dishes like "Francesinha" and "bacalhau", adds to its allure. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views, explore cultural attractions, and experience the seamless blend of tradition and modernity that defines Porto.
This flexible guide presents the must-see attractions and recommended experiences in the central area of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.
Despite having some steep streets, Porto is easily navigable on foot. Alternatively, you can opt for public transportation, including trams and buses, or an e-bike.
I've curated a diverse selection of recommendations to help enhance your experience and make the most of your time in Porto. I hope these tips help you have an awesome time in this captivating town!

Welcome to the Atlantic side ! Portugal is located in the south of France, next to Spain, and on the contrary is open to the Atlantic ocean and not the Mediterranean sea! The beaches are still beautiful, and cities like Porto or Lisbon have the advantage of being "inside" the country. They both have an inside sea, for city trips, but also a part located at the ocean for more "beachy" holidays. Then again, the most beautiful beaches would be in the south, in the Algarve region :)

A Very Opinionated, Bossy, No-Nonsense, Portugal Road Trip Itinerary (Lisbon & North)
It seems that everyone has an opinion on Portugal, amirite? You've seen dozens of Lisbon and Porto "must do" Instagram reels for this uber-popular (and rightly so!) country. So, what's this free guide gonna offer you? My own bossy opinions on what to do, where to eat, what not to miss, and where to stay. That's it. Covers top recommendations for 4-5 days in Lisbon and about 10 days on a road trip north to Cascais, Sintra, Aveiro, Porto, and The Duoro Wine Region. I've spent 10 weeks in Portugal on three separate trips and these are my tips.

A native Italian tour leader's best recommendations to help you plan your trip to the Cinque Terre: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.
The Cinque Terre are a very common day trip destination, but please note that you’ll enjoy them so much more if you spend at least one night or, better yet, two or three or more. There’s so much to do and see in the area, and one day just isn’t enough to get the best value for your time and monetary investment. Also: since so many people come just for the day, by sunset, when the crowds leave, it’ll feel like you have the villages all to yourself!
This map includes the following:
Monterosso:
- 1 hotel;
- 3 drinking and dining options;
- 1 beach club;
- 1 winery (transportation required).
Vernazza:
- 2 dining options;
- 1 gelato shop.
Corniglia:
- 1 dining option.
Manarola:
- 1 dining option with cooking classes.
Riomaggiore:
- 1 Airbnb studio apartment;
- 1 street food;
- 1 activity.
+ resources for how to move in between towns and hiking the trails.
