It's time to get out of the city. New York City is always exciting, but it can be completely exhausting. You need to breathe fresh air and stretch your legs. You want to hike up a mountain, jump into a lake, search for waterfalls, sip seasonal IPAs, taste freshly picked veggies, and try to ski for the first time in, well, way too long. It's a good thing the Catskill Mountains are so close. The Catskills are part of the Appalachian Mountains. They cover nearly 6,000 square miles in southeastern New York and sit about 100 miles northeast of New York City. On the eastern edge, the mountains rise steeply from the Hudson Valley along the Hudson River. The area became a popular summer escape in the mid-20th century. All-season, outdoor activities--from fishing and hiking to cross-country skiing and snowboarding--are now the biggest draws. Old lodges and motels are being turned into boutique hotels. Plus, in the last few years, new bakeries, bike paths, bookstores, breweries, coffee shops, farm-to-table restaurants, ice cream shops, and record stores have been popping up on a seemingly weekly basis. The Catskills are cool again. Since it's impossible to see everything in the Catskills during one trip, this guide focuses on the Northern Catskills, including the towns of Catskill, Hunter, Palenville, and Windham. This detailed guide includes: Places: hamlets, towns, villages Stay: cabins, hotels, lodges Eat: bagels, cafes, pizzerias, restaurants Drink: breweries, cideries Shop: farm stands, record stores Do: forests, gardens, hikes, lakes, ledges, lookouts, mountains, rocks, trails, waterfalls Transportation: parking lots Note: I travel to the Catskills frequently, so this guide will be updated.

Egypt & Jordan - considered two unbelievable wonders of the world - provide thousands of years of history. This 14-day itinerary has been put together based on a group trip I led for clients back in 2022. It was my 2nd time to Egypt and my first-time to Jordan - both countries should definitely be visited. The itinerary is set-up in a way that you could separate out each country if your schedule only allows for minimal travel days. So in essence, you get 2 country itineraries for the price of 1! Throughout you will experience a dramatic world beyond what you can think, as you enter into two countries filled with legends, history, and indescribable natural beauty. The itinerary includes a visit to the famous Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx and includes a 4-night Nile River Cruise. In Jordan, you will visit Petra, the “Rose Red City” that appears as if it emerged straight from the rock bed. Admire the ethereal landscape of the desert city of Wadi Rum, the “Valley of the Moon.” And, indulge at a deluxe spa resort on the Northern shore of the Dead Sea. We have also added in some key tours, unique experiences and the opporutinity to delve into the culture and flavours of these lands. Hundreds of thousands of years of history and iconic wonders, delicious cuisine, and stretching sunsets fading against the desert horizon – this is Egypt and Jordan. Note, throughout the itinerary we have listed options available for tours or additional stays to extend your trip and encourage a greater experience and immersion into the countries.

Egypt has an incredible amount of sites and experiences, but the excitement and joy of exploring the world’s oldest civilization and the greatest marvels created by man can sometimes be overshadowed by inconveniences. Simple issues, such as a hotel or Nile cruise not meeting the expected classification or standards, can detract from the overall experience. Although Egypt boasts many hotels, the categorization criteria are often loose and poorly defined, making it challenging for tourists to determine which accommodations best suit their needs. The 4 and 5-star global classifications and criteria are not always strictly adhered to here, leading to discrepancies between expectations and reality. This can result in less satisfactory experiences for travelers who anticipate a certain standard of comfort and service. Whether travelers are seeking budget, luxury, or ultra-luxury experiences, they may find their needs unmet due to these inconsistencies. I have often heard comments like, “Everything was great, but I did not realize there were different levels of 5-star hotels, and I could have stayed at a more luxurious one to enhance my experience.” This guide is designed to address these concerns by providing clear information on the classification of hotels and Nile cruises. It will help you navigate Egypt’s diverse offerings by listing accommodations according to their correct classifications, ensuring a more enjoyable and tailored experience. The guide categorizes hotels and Nile cruises into five distinct groups, offering clarity and ease of choice. I have excluded any hotels below 4 stars from this guide and focus specifically on the official 5-star categories, dividing them into four types: standard, luxury, deluxe, and ultra-luxury. This way, you can make informed decisions and have a more fulfilling stay in Egypt, aligned with your expectations and desires.
