FREE: 10 Things To Do In Sharm El Sheikh
Overview
Tips for Visiting Sharm El Sheikh
1. Weather and Clothing:
Sharm el Sheikh enjoys warm and dry weather, with temperatures ranging from 27 to 40 degrees Celsius and abundant sunshine. For this climate, pack lightweight and breathable clothing, including swimsuits for beach and pool activities. Sun protection essentials like sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats are crucial to shield against the strong sun. Casual wear such as shorts, T-shirts, dresses and sandals is suitable for most daytime activities. Additionally, bring a light jacket for cooler evenings. Dress modestly when outside of resort areas, especially when visiting religious or local communities.
2. Currency and Bargaining:
The local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP), but many places also accept major foreign currencies. It's a good idea to have some local currency for small purchases. Bargaining is a common practice in markets and bazaars, so be prepared to negotiate prices if you're interested in purchasing souvenirs or taking taxi's.
3. Hydration:
It's crucial to stay hydrated, especially if you're spending time outdoors. Carry a reusable water bottle and drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.
4. Bring A Few Pens:
At the airport you will have both landing cards and departure cards which will need to be filled in before going to passport control. Make sure you have all your flight, passport and hotel details handy.
5. Visas:
There are no visas for Sharm El Sheikh, however, if you are planning to visit Cairo, a visa is required. At the airport, you can pay for this visa (25 US dollars) or apply online before you travel.
6. Buy a Sim:
When you are out and about you will need a sim. Take the number of the taxi driver from the hotel, incase you are not able to find a taxi back to your hotel.

Things To Do In Sharm El Sheikh
Old Market
Head to the Old Town and Market Area for some shopping and strolling. Stroll through the streets, try some local treats and shop for souvenirs, local crafts, clothes and spices.
Al Sahaba Mosque
While you are in the Old Town, visit Al Sahaba Mosque. The mosque is magnificently built at the centre of the Old Market in Sharm el Shiekh. Entrance is free and you must be covered with no shoulders or legs showing. Free veils are provided at the mosque so you can cover shoulders and legs if needed.
SOHO Square
Family friendly shopping and entertainment complex and atmosphere with various dining and entertainment options. Ice skating rink, bowling, kids arcade, cinema and soft play area. There are also several shops, restaurants serving different cuisines and cosy cafes. There are also entertainment shows, live music and performances in the evenings. Enjoy the dancing fountains show in the evening.
Desert Safari and Star Gazing
Buggy or Quad Bike safari ride in the Sinai desert. After the buggy or quad bike ride, you can enjoy a camel ride during the sunset. Followed by an Egyptian show offering folk music, dance performances and fire show. Relax on the pillows in the Bedouin tents and watch the belly dancers and whirling dervish dances. Enjoy a lovely dinner while you watch (vegetarian options available on request). At the end of the night, you can also do some star gazing through a powerful telescope to view the stars and planets.
I have used Sun International when we went to Sharm El Sheikh and booked the package with Quad Biking + Star Gazing.
Glass-Bottom Boat Tour
If you do not want to get into the water and still want to see the beautiful marine life, enjoy a boat tour with a glass bottom allowing you to mesmerise the coral reefs of the Red Sea in Sharm El Sheikh. This tour usually lasts around 60 minutes.
Boat Trip + Snorkelling
A full day trip to Ras Mohamed National Park, White Island and the Seven Coral Reefs. Discover 3 different spots in the Red Sea Sharm El Sheikh and stop for a swim. Snorkel in the open sea and discover the marine wildlife in the Red Sea. Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch onboard and relax as you take in sea views. There is also an opportunity for diving too, however, there is an extra charge. Note: The boat ride can be rough at times so if you suffer from sea sickness, I would not recommend this. Also, this activity is more for the adults as children will only be able to stay on the boat.
I have booked this boat trip from Get Your Guide. We had a lovely experience and enjoyed snorkelling and diving. For lunch, we had to request for vegetarian food. There was limited options such as pasta, rice and salad. Bring a few snacks or a packed lunch from the hotel.
Dolphin Show
Visit Dolphina Park and enjoy a dolphin show. If you want, there is also an opportunity to swim with the dolphins too.
Farsha Cafe
Colorful, vibrant mountain cafe with an ocean view serving cocktails, tea & light snacks. Visit an hour before sunset to see the lights turn on in the evening too. Note: I am not 100% sure if children are allowed here, so this might be an activity for a few of the adults only.
Cleo Park
Cleo Park is a water park designed for children, featuring 22 water slides, pools and kids play area.
Day Trip to Cairo
Take a day trip to Cairo to see the famous Great Pyramids of Giza. Witness the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and the Cairo Museum in one day. The journey can be done by air or land. However, I highly recommend by plane as the bus or car journey can be over 8 hours. A reminder you will need a visa which can be purchased at Sharm El Sheikh airport when you land on 11th May.
