Plus I've included details about an off-the-beaten-path destination located in the center of the island, which was the highlight of my trip. I explored Iceland by van and I believe it is the absolute best way to maximize your time on the island. Van travel saves you money since your accommodations, transportation (and meals if you decide to cook in your van) are all in one! To travel the Ring Road in just a week, you'll need to be prepared to drive a lot (a few hours each day), but you'll see a lot as well! Hot springs are one of Taiwan's characteristics. Due to Taiwan's special geological structure, located in the Ring of Fire, geothermal heat spreads throughout the country. Overall, there are 128 hot springs with signs; that is to say, traces of hot springs can be noticed in almost every city on the island. It is no exaggeration to name Taiwan as the kingdom of hot springs. As a hot spring lover, I found few places to get hot spring baths in the UK, which makes me miss the hot springs in my hometown. Rotorua - a town on the North Island that is well known for its geothermal activity and Māori culture. There’s so much to see from 30m tall Geysers and bubbling mud pools, to a living Māori village! Taupō - located near the centre of North Island and known for its lake front setting on Lake Taupō. The lake is actually a volcanic caldera that drains into Huka Falls, which is a must see while in the area!! We spent two weeks living in Reporoa doing “WWOOFING” and it gave us free accommodation, food every afternoon and two days a week to travel the area and see as much as possible! Iceland really surprised me with how celiac-friendly it was!
