Beyond the ordinary beaches and parties, lies the heart and soul of Goa, which for years I have been exploring and relishing in.
For decades, Goa has attracted a certain type of crowd - the party people, foreigners escaping their country's harsh winters, and adventure lovers.
It's no surprise that so much beauty has already been tarnished. I too found it hard to find places that I loved, but after years of exploring, I am thrilled to be sharing my off-beat experiences that made me know the real goa - one that is for nature lovers and conscious travelers, looking for the authentic Goa experience.
My top 4 places to experience the real Goa + the best of stays
~ Netravali: Disconnect & Rejuvenate
~ Cabo de Rama: Witness the Ruins
~ Betul: Seaside Tranquility
~ Divar Island & beyond: Goa's Timeless Heritage

We love cruises, but the shore excursions through the cruise line can be so expensive and often make you feel like cattle being herded into trailers. We prefer a slightly more personalized option, and many of the same trips can be organized on your own. If you have a smaller party finding your cruise roll call by searching for Facebook groups with your sailing dates is a great way to organize a small tour to bring costs per person down.
We love cruising for family vacations. It’s a great way for the whole family to have fun and feel relaxed (hey Kids Club!). It’s also great for larger groups or multi-generational trips. Everyone can do their own thing and connect where they want. We like to do dinner together and port excursions mostly together, and then once back onboard we kind of do our own things.
If you have a grandparent or co-traveler going with you connected staterooms is a great way to go. This gives you a little more space and the ability to coordinate and hang out within the same space, especially after kids go to bed. Individual doors can still be closed as needed, but you’ll need your key to reopen or go through a balcony.

Having spent four amazing years in Lisbon, I've fallen for the cool vibe of natural wine. Now, it's a must in my weekend playbook, and I've rounded up some absolute favorite wine bars just for you. No touristy stuff here—these are the spots where locals and fellow expats get together for some Friday chatter and good laughs!
Quick heads up—I'm not a wine expert. Just a regular Joana who loves a good glass and enjoys meeting people from all corners of the globe. No fancy terminology here, just a cool vibe and stories to share.
Cheers to enjoying wine and making new friends.

Jerusalem is basically a combination of three 300,000 person cities: the Arab city, the Orthodox Jewish city, and the new Jewish city. Most of Jerusalem's main tourist sites are in the Arab city (the Old City and its Holy Sites for instance). However, there are a few must see items in the new Jewish city. Yad V'Shem and the Israel Museum are probably the top two items. But to really get a glimpse of modern day life in Jerusalem's Jewish side, you must take a trip to Mechane Yehuda market - colloquially known as the Shuk. A cornucopia of food experiences, Mechane Yehuda is the place Israelis come to eat by day. At night the Shuk turns into a colorful array of murals and cafes serving beer and other drinks to lively patrons.
While both experiences are worth having, this article focuses on where you should go during the day in the Shuk based on my time living in Jerusalem. At night, follow the crowds - they know the best hangout spots.

Budapest is a super affordable, yet rich in Hungarian history, architecture & culture. Many people visit for a long weekend. However Hungary is way more than just goulash & Budapest. 1 hour away from the city and you're in another world. In an ASIAN world. 🎎
We spent one of our favorite autumn weekends in Cserhát-mountain, when our little girl was 1 year old. The best part of this weekend was that we visited these locations following a special Asian theme. The itinerary is totally toddler-approved!
My husband and I have loved Asia for a decade now. He lived in Japan, and I have a deep connection with South-Korea. Needless to say, with such a background, everything Asian related is a little closer to our hearts.

Most visitors stop in Athens for a day or two, look at the Acropolis, and then fly off to Santorini. When people rush through Athens just to get to the islands, they miss out on a beautiful city full of history, incredible food, and amazing sights.
I studied in Athens for a semester and I loved being a part of the daily life and culture. From chatting with the friendly people who worked at my local coffee shop to using the Acropolis as a directional guide, Athens quickly felt like home. I miss Athens constantly and just really loved the time I spent there.
There’s truly something for everyone. If you are a Greek mythology or philosophy nerd, this is the motherland. If you love food, get ready to gorge yourself on delicious souvlaki and feta cheese. Or, if you just appreciate beautiful sights and fun nightlife, there’s something for you too.
Based on my time in Athens, here are my recommendations for what to do, where to eat, day trips, and nightlife. If you’re just visiting, opt to do more than the average tourist and really get to know the city of Athens. It’s more than a layover.

Just pull up this map when you’re out and about to see where the nearest spots are when your tummy starts rumbling!
Get access to ALL the San Diego area locations of 9 regional chains, including:
