This was my second time in Edinburgh; both times I stayed about 5 days, so I've covered a lot of ground! During my first visit, I did the following: Free walking tour Edinburgh Castle Holyrood Palace The Whisky Experience Camera Obscura This time around, we were focused on one main "anchor" activity each day, and those were: Royal Yacht Britannia Underground Tour Arthur's Seat Hike Museums Aside from our "anchors", we spent lots of leisurely wandering and walking. We also ate and drank well (coffee and whisky). By now, I am confident I've done each of the big touristy things, AND a lot of more unique and off-the-beaten-path stuff. This itinerary is based on our 2nd trip so it doesn't include the major things we did the first time around. Lors de mes deux voyages, j'ai pris la décision de ne pas louer de voiture parce que : 1. J'aime pas conduire de nuit (je suis partie les deux fois en hiver) ; 2. Je suis couillonne de conduire à gauche ; 3. Je suis stressée des routes étroites (alors que j'ai roulé sur des routes de montagne en Crète). Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is a city of unique charm, combining history, culture and modernity. Known for its impressive medieval architecture and picturesque cobbled streets, it has a majestic yet welcoming atmosphere. Dominated by its famous castle, perched on a volcanic rock, Edinburgh is full of historic monuments, fascinating museums and breathtaking natural landscapes, such as Arthur's Seat, an ancient volcanic hill offering panoramic views over the city. Its contrasting neighbourhoods, from the historic Royal Mile to the stylish Georgian New Town, reflect the city's rich history, while offering a thriving food and arts scene. I had the opportunity to admire Edinburgh's beauty on two occasions. On a solo citytrip and then on my train trip to Scotland, where I ended my trip in the capital. On my two trips, I decided not to hire a car because: 1. I don't like driving at night (I went both times in winter); 2. I'm a coward for driving on the left; 3. I'm stressed about narrow roads (even though I've driven on mountain roads in Crete). Our five absolute favourite spots in Scotland. We spend two weeks road tripping around almost the entire mainland, and whilst we saw SO MUCH there are always those few places that stick with you. It's hard to narrow it down to just a few, but here are our top five Scotland favourites!

As a teenager, I visited Scotland for a few days, and that in addition to Outlander binge watching ended up with me moving to Edinburgh next year. I spent a few years living there and falling more and more in love with the country. The only problem was that it was my university years which meant a tight budget but still the need to explore. So this guide is a summary of a few years of budget travel in Scotland and what I think it's the best compromise between budget and exploring everything this magical country has to offer. ⛰️ This guide will help you plan your perfect Scotland trip - on a budget and without a car. The base of this trip is a loop which you can start in either Glasgow or Edinburgh and which will take you 8 days. Then, at every stop, I'll give you some day trip options so that you can extend your trip depending on what you want to see and how much time you have. If you go for all-day trips this full itinerary will take 17 days. 💷 I'll give you a full breakdown of the cost. The basic loop will require around 210£ for all transport and accommodation. I'll provide you with a spreadsheet that breaks down each cost and each day trip so you can also plan and adjust your trip according to your budget. I'll also share with you accommodation recommendations and a breakdown of all the buses/trains you'd need to take.

Mix of history, culture and nature. Within few minutes walk you can get from modern art museum to hilly park. This guide covers 14 days and a whole lot of campervanning - get ready for a roadtrip!
