"Ah, the Jet d'Eau-- Geneva's 140 meter high showstopper that is visible from nearly all over the city. Sure, you can admire this landmark from afar, but I'd recommend getting up close. Like REALLY close. You can actually walk on the wooden walkway even past where the water shoots out. Depending on the wind, you can get really close and not feel a drop. Note: the Jet d'Eau isn't only around the clock. In the summer, the hours are generally 9 am - around 10 pm -- and in the winter the window narrows. And if it's too windy or cold, the fountain will be switched off til conditions are favorable. "

"This iconic 140-meter fountain is Geneva's most famous landmark. It's a perfect starting point to feel the pulse of the city and get your first glimpse of Lake Geneva. Stroll around the Quai du Mont-Blanc for picture-perfect views of the Alps and the city's skyline. Arriving early ensures a peaceful walk before the crowds arrive."

"The Jet d'Eau was originally installed in 1886 as a hydraulic device used for releasing excess pressure from a hydraulic power network. Over time, it became a popular attraction due to its striking appearance, and in 1951, it was moved to its current location in Lake Geneva."
