"The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, situated near Bogotá, is an underground marvel carved within a salt mine's tunnels. Originally established in 1932 for miners to seek divine protection, the current cathedral, inaugurated in 1995, lies 200 meters below the surface. Divided into three sections symbolizing Jesus' birth, life, and death, visitors traverse 14 chapels representing the stations of the cross before reaching the main cathedral, highlighted by a luminous salt cross. Beyond its religious significance, the cathedral showcases Colombia's rich cultural heritage, blending architectural prowess with deep-rooted faith. As one of Colombia's top tourist attractions, it draws thousands annually, and in 2007, it was nominated as a contender for the modern Seven Wonders of the World. This unique fusion of spirituality, history, and artistry makes the Salt Cathedral a must-visit when in Bogotá."

"The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá is an extraordinary underground Roman Catholic church built within the tunnels of a salt mine, located about 48 kilometers north of Bogotá, Colombia, it takes around 1 to 1.5 hours to reach by car or bus. Theres is also a tourist train from Bogotá to Zipaquirá, which operates on weekends and holidays. Carved from the halite rock 200 meters (656 feet) below ground, the cathedral features a stunning main hall, 14 Stations of the Cross, and various chapels illuminated dramatically to highlight its unique rock formations. The Salt Cathedral is open daily from 9 AM to 5:30 PM. Entry fees vary for Colombians; the price is COP 61,000 for adults and COP 50,000 for children under 12 and adults over 60. For foreign visitors, the entry fee is COP 98,000 for adults and COP 84,000 for children and seniors. This fee includes a guided tour and an audio guide. "
"Very unique day trip about an hour outside of Bogota. This Roman Catholic church was built within a salt mine up to a depth of 200m! This underground architecture site is full of pews and alcoves and lit with neon blue lights. If you have extra time in Bogota, this is a great added destination! "
