I spent two months traveling all around Colombia, from the Caribbean beaches in the north to the mountainous coffee region in the south. This guide includes all of my curated recommendations of the best hikes, beaches, waterfalls, restaurants, cafes, and nightlife. I include all of the popular tourist destinations but also some towns that are off the beaten path. This is the ultimate guide to everything Colombia...don't miss out!

Monserrate
@tamaraknell
Head on up to this 360 viewpoint by hiking, funicular, or cable car. Roundtrip cable car plus entry is only $7 ! Once at the top you are greeted with gorgeous views of Bogota and also a church, market, and restaurants/food stalls. Pro tip: it can get pretty windy/chilly up there so bring a jacket.

Botero Museum
@tamaraknell
Bogota has lots of free museums so deff take advantage of that perk. The Botero museum has several rooms featuring work by none other than... Botero. Was a nice rainy day activity with some interesting art!

Gold Museum
@tamaraknell
The Museum of Gold is another free activity for ya. It chronicles the history of gold in Colombia. Fun fact: the gold is represented by the color yellow in the Colombian flag.

La Candelaria
@tamaraknell
This is the backpacker/tourist neighbourhood of Bogota (also the oldest!). I would deff recommend staying in this area as there is lots to do and tons of cute streets to wander around.

Plaza Bolivar
@tamaraknell
Beautiful plaza to walk around and admire the architecture of the surrounding buildings. Many vendors selling food and souvenirs. Also a large amount of pigeons lol. Watch out for pickpockets in this area!

Museo Nacional de Colombia
@tamaraknell
To be honest, I would only recommend this museum if you had extra time and wanted something to do. All of the museum placards are in Spanish and the layout of the exhibitions is lackluster. But if you go on a Wednesday after 3pm its free!

Originally from LA, I've solo traveled to 56 countries at 27 years old.
Most of my travels have revolved around South East Asia, Central America, Europe, Australia, and South America.
I specialize in budget backpacking and slow travel. I focus my recommendations on adventure activities, nature, cultural experiences, local food, and nightlife.
I've had tons of crazy experiences along my journey that has shaped me into the confident backpacker I am today. I want every person (but women especially!) to feel the joy and freedom that comes from solo traveling.
I'll tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly. I've made tons of mistakes traveling; I've lost my debit card, had medical emergencies, stolen iPhones, and the occasional mental breakdown...or two. Traveling is not always picture perfect so I want to show you all the nitty gritty details to make sure you are THE most prepared for your backpacking adventure.
