"The square was built in the early 19th century, it was known as "the palace square", until September 3, 1843, a popular and military revolt took place in this square to force King Otto of Greece to grant a constitution to the people for this the square was renamed "the Syntagma Square", which means Constitution Square. At the bottom of Parliament is the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, guarded by the evzones-which are members of the presidential guard, dressed in a kilt-like garment called a fustanella and wearing traditional pompom-ornamented shoes called a tsarouchia, evzones are selected for their height and strength. Pay attention you are not allowed to touch them and if you talk to them they are not allowed to react or respond. Since 1843 and until now Syntagma square is the center of important actions and basic movements in the history of Greece, for example, in 1974 the country's military junta collapsed, and the new leader of Greece gave his first official speech in Syntagma square, also between 2010 and 2012 the square was occupied by the indignados of Athens during the anti-austerity movement."
