Explore Athens for Free

The square itself is a magnet for tourists and locals. It has great restaurants, street food, live music, and classic Greek ruins before you even reach the market entrance. 

The markets are a massive long strip of any kind of shop you can imagine. Vintage items, souvenirs, art, clothing, home decor, and plenty more. 

I visited these markets about every second day I was in Athens and never got tired of them. 

 I spent 2 weeks living in Athens, and these are the free things I spent my time doing to keep my budget on track.

It’s known as the Constitutional Square and is an important historical public area.

Even if you’ve already seen some of Athens streets already, walking tours take you to explore the lesser known parts of the city and you come back with so much information you would have never known. 

Well now that I'm sharing it, it's not-so-secret anymore. 

Their menu has great food options and even a vegan burger which was a common purchase for me. 

1. Go to MS roof garden - located in Monastiraki Square.

Also allows you to meet other travellers which is always a lot of fun. If you’re staying in a hostel, make sure to check their activities boards as they often host free walking tours for their guests. 

Athens has over 70 museums, which is insane. 

Most of these museums have a small entry fee from 6-15 euros, however, there you can follow these free of charge;

Acropolis Museum has free entry every 21st of each month. 

Sundays are free entry for the National Historical Museum. 

It’s the central square of Athens and provides a nice place to walk around and explore. It was also cool to watch the changing of the guards which happens every hour – felt like a Greek version of Buckingham Palace. 

2. Find the elavator inside and hit whatever the highest number is. It will take you to the roof dining area. 

3. Find a seat along the edge (my fav) or just anywhere has a good view. 

And there you go, I spent hours hanging up here, chilling, chatting, eating and just enjoying the view.
