For years Bari was just a place you passed through on your way to other destinations in the region. Things have changed in the past 10 or so years, and it has now become a destination for anyone making their way to the heel of the boot. The city is divided in two parts: the newer one (known as Murat and organized in a grid like-manner), and the old part (known as Bari Vecchia and similar to a maze of small alleys). Most of the great restaurants and bars are in the newer part of town since the older part has become slightly touristy (a lot of airbnb’s have popped up over the years) There is plenty to do in Bari, but even more to eat! Various cultures have influenced it’s cuisine over the centuries (think Spanish and Greeks), and you can find anything from fresh seafood, street food carts, vegetables for every season and delicious focaccia straight out of the oven.
