Rachel Rhoton
"Bumpass Hell is a hot bed of geothermal activity and it is AMAZING. I don’t understand how Lassen doesn’t gain more traction with this hike. Maybe only geology nerds get that excited for 16 acres of geothermal activity. The hike is 2.8 miles round trip and do be mindful of the elevation it isn’t bad but it is there. Stay on the path and don’t try to touch anything or you’ll end up one leg short like Mr.Bumpass. Hence Bumpass’s Hell. "
Exploring Somewhere
"Arguably the best trail in Lassen, the Bumpass Hell Trail is a 3 mile out-and-back trail that leads you to the largest area of geothermal features in the park. Bumpass Hell also contains boardwalks that allow you to safely get closer to the steam vents and boiling pools."
