Saksun

Nally Preseault
"The villages on northern Streymoy keep getting smaller and smaller. It’s a pretty drive through Saksunardalur, a long valley in the center of the island, to reach Saksun. The little town (population barely in double digits) is home to a turf-roofed church, a museum on a sheep farm, and a surprisingly large parking lot. It’s the views that will take your breath away, though. A long inlet is surrounded by steep mountains. Waterfalls trickle down them. It used to be a protected harbor, until a storm washed in tons of sand. That created a large lagoon, which is only accessible from the sea during high tide. It’s peaceful and idyllic here. Just be mindful of the direction in which the tide is going. A perfect day trip from Tórshavn. "
