"The regional capital of Puglia is often overlooked because it's scruffy and rough around the edges. Those who venture here will find a thriving street food scene and fascinating historic center where the nonne of bari sit on tables outside making pasta by hand. Just a short walk from Piazza San Nicola are Bari's other major architectural attractions: the Cattedrale di San Sabino, also built in a late 12th century Romanesque style by the Normans, and the Castello Svevo, Emperor Frederick II's mighty fortress. Bari boasts a long seafront promenade which leads from Bari Vecchia to the more modern shopping district, built on an octagonal plan in the early 19th century by Joachim Murat, Napoleon's brother-in-law. The vintage market is held the first sunday of the month in Piazza del Ferrarese"

"13. Bari: Seaside Serenity and Timeless Charm on the Adriatic Horizon Bari, a coastal gem in Southern Italy, invites you to explore its historic treasures and seaside allure. Wander through the labyrinthine streets of Bari Vecchia, where the Basilica di San Nicola and the Castello Normanno-Svevo stand as testaments to its rich history. Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the Mercato Coperto and savor local delicacies like orecchiette pasta. Take a stroll along the Lungomare to bask in the Adriatic views. Bari effortlessly blends tradition with a lively spirit, offering a delightful taste of Puglian hospitality."

"I like to stay near the old part of Bari. There are a couple of nice larger hotels. Since I usually travel with my groups, I tend to look for those sort of places to stay. But now there are also Air B/B's as well. Beware, the neighborhood with the no traffic streets are packed with people walking around at night and outdoor dining."
