"The Giralda was built during the Muslim period, inspired by the Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech. However, its upper part was completed during the Christian period.
Legend has it that when the Muslims were defeated, they asked for it to be torn down so that it would not fall into Christian hands. This led Alfonso X to preserve it so that it would become part of the city's history.
The tower gets its name from the bronze sculpture located at the top, which functions as a weather vane, known as the "Giraldillo".
The Giralda is 101 metres tall, including the Giraldillo, which is taller than the Leaning Tower of Pisa and even the legendary Big Ben clock tower in London.
The Giralda bell tower has a total of 24 bells, the most notable of which is the one in Santa Maria la Mayor, which weighs one and a half tonnes."

"La Giralda is now the bell tower of the Catedral de Sevilla. Visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of Seville. It takes a lot of effort to climb the ramps because of their different angles. I pause now and then to gaze out the tower's windows. Once you get to the 35th floor, you will have reached the tower's peak. As you take in the Cathedral's surroundings, the resounding bells fill the air with a captivating melody."

"The Giralda is one of Seville's most famous landmarks, which is why a visit is a must. At 101 metres high, the Giralda surpasses the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and London's legendary Big Ben. From the top you have a wonderful view over the rooftops of Seville. Get your ticket online in advance to avoid endless queues."
