5 Best Hikes in Seoul (All Levels) FREE
Seoul's Scenic Trails
Seoul's skyline isn't just defined by skyscrapers; its natural beauty is equally captivating. The city is surrounded by serene mountains, offering stunning panoramic views and refreshing hikes.
These mountains, with an average height of 410 meters, are perfect for hikers of all levels. Enjoy the cool summer breeze, vibrant autumn foliage, or snowy winter landscapes.
Due to Korea's terrain hiking is one of Korean's favorite sports/hobbies. Therefore most trails are very well maintained. Don't be discouraged if you are getting passed by grandma or grandpa hiking. Happens to me often and I hike regularly :D Buy some Kimbap by the station as a reward when getting to the top and enjoy the views of Seoul and its surroundings.

Hanyangdoseong (Naksan Section)
Step back in time and explore the historic Hanyangdoseong, Seoul's ancient city wall. Built in 1396 to protect the Joseon Dynasty capital, this impressive fortification now offers stunning city views and a unique cultural experience.
My previous apartment used to be right around the corner. This is the perfect place for a nightly stroll with views of the illuminated city.

Inwangsan Mountain Hiking Trail
Want a quick escape from the bustling city? Inwangsan Mountain offers stunning panoramic views of Seoul. Its convenient location near Gyeongbokgung Station makes it easy to access. The well-maintained trails, suitable for hikers of all levels, lead to the summit in no time. For a more leisurely stroll, try the Inwangsan Jarak Trail, a gentle 2.5 km loop around the mountain. I hiked this Trail with my friends who never hike and we made it to the top with just a couple of breaks in between. From Changuimun Gate you can take a bus back (1020, 7022, 7212)

Cheonggyesan Mountain (665m)
Cheonggyesan, affectionately nicknamed "Cheongaesan" (meaning "thousand-step mountain"), lives up to its name with its seemingly endless flights of stairs. The steep Kkalddakgogae Pass, notorious for its sharp, labored breaths, is a particular challenge. Yet, the reward is immense: breathtaking panoramic views and the soothing sound of trickling streams, especially during the rainy summer months. At the top, you can enjoy some cooled Makgeolli (my favorite Korea liquor).

Gwanak Mountain Park
Don't let Gwanaksan's modest size fool you. This mountain offers a challenging hike, especially for beginners. Be prepared with proper hiking boots and consider gloves or hiking sticks to help your climb. While the initial path is relatively flat, the trail soon becomes a series of steep ascents and descents along the rocky ridge. If you're up for a workout, the roller-coaster terrain is sure to reward you with breathtaking panoramic views. Be aware that there is a rock wall you will have to climb. If you want to avoid this, send me a message and I will give you an alternative route. This is probably the mountain I climbed up the most in Seoul. I walked all possible routes leading up the mountain top and I can say that the following one is the best.

Dobongsan Mountain
Dobongsan, a rugged mountain north of Seoul, offers a thrilling hiking experience. Its rocky peaks and challenging terrain make it a favorite among seasoned hikers. While the climb may be tough, the breathtaking views from the summit are well worth the effort and especially beautiful with fall foilage. Please wear gloves and shoes with a good grip for this. There are some steep and rocky parts on the trail. Also don't forget to start early to avoid it getting dark on you on way back down.
