Reykjavík is the capital city of Iceland and it is located approx. 50km from the Keflavík International Airport.

For me and my boyfriend, it was an obvious stop as we wanted to see the city and absorb the culture through an authentic Icelandic atmosphere. It was the first day of our 10-day road trip around the island and you can find our tips 🔽

Let's introduce you to:

Hallgrimskirkja
@barboracintava96
Hallgrimskirkja in my personal opinion is the most iconic building in the city. Definitely worth visiting the church as well as its tower.

Since 1990 the steel ship sculpture created by Jón Gunnar Árnason has been standing by the Reykjavík's waterfront. It represents the author’s interpretation of a dreamboat and an ode to the sun.

This unique beach is located just a few minutes from the city center. It is a well-known project where the cold sea and hot geothermal water fuse together resulting in warmer water.

Free walking tour🚶‍♀️

It has been a while since we started exploring cities in Europe through the free walking tours.

It is truly indescribable and precious to stroll around the city with a local person. You will get to know the culture, history, habits, and customs from a very firsthand. In Reykjavík, we opted for CiytWalk.

The tour is for free but it is well-appreciated if you tip a guide based on your financial possiblities. However, a review on Tripadvisor is as well an option.

Must try!!!

Where to eat 🍽 in Reykjavík?

We have tried their signature LeKock Cheeseburger and Chipotle Potatoes, honestly, it was sooo yummy!!!

Where to buy souvenirs?

Personally, I love buying magnets as souvenirs as I have a huge collection back home, however, our souvenirs from Iceland were not only magnets but somehow more typical such as Icelandic wool products, more specifically warm sweaters and socks.

Icewear is an Icelandic brand producing wool clothing and sportswear. The stores are well-spread around the city but you can find their products in other souvenir shops as well as in other bigger cities such as Akureyri or Vík or at the attractions: e.g. Gullfoss or Geysir Area.

How to get to the city center from  Keflavík International Airport?✈️

1) Rent a car🚗

It is a very common option if you are staying in Iceland for a longer period of time - 4 or more days.

In case you are visiting Iceland only for 1-3 days,  renting a car is still a preferred option as you can easily travel to the Golden Circle or even visit more distant places and make day trips from Reykjavík on your own.

More info about rental in my upcoming posts....coming soon!!!!

2) Get on a bus🚌

a) Take bus no.55

The bus will take you directly from the airport to Reykjavík City Hall, the ride takes about 75 minutes, price is about 4€.
