"JK Rowling lived and taught English in Porto from 1991 to 1993. It is rumored that she drew much of her inspiration for Harry Potter (& Hogwarts) from the city and students of Porto. And although she has publicly claimed to have never been here, this bookstore definitely gives off some HP vibes! Interest in Livraria Lello has grown over the years, and it is now considered a top tourist attraction in Porto. Despite the crazy crowds and long lines, it really is a beautiful place to visit. ⭐️ Tip: book timed entry tickets online in advance, ideally the first entry of the day (website below). A regular ticket is 8 Euros, but you will receive that back as a credit with the purchase of a book. There is also a priority ticket for 15.90 Euros, which includes a book. Either way, be prepared for a crowd at the door! "
"Lello really is a beauty, but don’t expect a hushed, library-style environment — it’s packed to the rafters with Potter fans, all trying to get a shot of themselves on the infamous stairs. Buy tickets online in advance and go at opening or just before closing to avoid the worst of the crowds. You get the entrance fee back as a gift voucher to buy something from the store. They even produce their own special editions of classic novels, the perfect gift or souvenir from Porto. And don’t worry if you don’t speak Portuguese, they have their unique special edition books available in multiple languages. "
