Museums
Museo Xul Solar is an art museum housed in the former home of the visionary Argentine artist, Xul Solar.
The Latin American Art Museum of Buenos Aires. MALBA was inaugurated on September 21, 2001. The museum design was made through an open call contest; 450 proposals were presented and the first prize was awarded to three young Argentinian architects.
The museum was originally a luxurious private mansion. Built for a wealthy Argentine couple in the early 1900s, it was designed by a French architect and filled with exquisite antiques. After the wife passed away, the husband donated the mansion to the government, and it became the National Museum of Decorative Arts in 1937.
