Paldalmun Gate, part of Suwonseong Fortress, was constructed in 1794 during King Jeongjo's reign. This south gate, named after Paldalsan Mountain, features a two-story gate tower with a hipped roof and intricate bracket styles typical of late Joseon architecture. The gate, originally connected to fortress walls, now stands alone due to road construction. As the largest and most impressive structure of Suwonseong Fortress, it represents a significant cultural and architectural heritage.

Suwon City Food Culture Street is known for its diverse and delicious culinary offerings. This street is lined with a variety of restaurants and cafés, making it a haven for food lovers touring around the area. Note though that most of the shops here open at 11:00 AM. Suwon, a significant center during the Joseon dynasty, is home to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, Hwaseong Fortress. Built between 1794 and 1796, the fortress was constructed to protect the city and honor King Jeongjo’s father. Spanning 5.7 kilometers, the fortress features performances and the annual Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival every fall. Visitors can enjoy activities like the Suwon Hwaseong Stamp Tour, traditional Korean archery, and the Bell of Hyowon ringing experience. The Southwestern Pavilion, also known as Hwayangnu, is a strategic surveillance facility in Hwaseong Fortress. It offers a panoramic view of the southern area, essential for defense. Built later in the fortress's construction, it features a brick-paved front for commanding troops and raised windows at the back for observation. In 1797, King Jeongjo inspected the entire fortress from this pavilion.

If you don't wish to explore the whole fortress, you can go straight to Hwaseong Haenggung (화성행궁) and start from exploring the palace instead.

Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, completed in 1789 by King Jeongjo, served as a royal residence and administrative office outside Seoul. After suffering severe damage during Japan’s occupation, it has been meticulously restored over 35 years, reopening fully after 119 years. The palace was a key site for King Jeongjo’s visits to his father’s tomb and was the largest provincial palace outside the capital during the Joseon Dynasty. Today, it offers a glimpse into Korea's royal history and architectural grandeur. Today, it also has a small exhibition of the props used in the hit Kdrama "Dae Janggeum or Jewel in the Palace" because it was used as its filming location. Kdramas fans can also recognize this palace as it was featured in the trending video of Park Bo Gum dancing to "Bombastic" to promote his Kdrama "Love in the Moonlight." When inside the Hwaseong Haenggung, make sure to go to the back of the palace and go all the way up to Mirohanjeong (미로한정) where you can have the best overlooking view of Suwon.

Mirohanjeong, also known as Yukmyeonjeong, is a scenic pavilion in the rear garden of the temporary palace in Suwon. Built in 1790, its unique six-sided roof inspired its original name. The pavilion is renowned for its autumn chrysanthemum blooms and is a key highlight of Suwon’s landscape.

Yeonmudae/Dongjangdae/Eastern Command Post (연무대)

Hwaseong Fortress features two command posts, known as "jangdae" in Korean, which were used to direct military operations.
