"Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, completed in 1789 by King Jeongjo, served as a royal residence and administrative office outside Seoul. After suffering severe damage during Japan’s occupation, it has been meticulously restored over 35 years, reopening fully after 119 years. The palace was a key site for King Jeongjo’s visits to his father’s tomb and was the largest provincial palace outside the capital during the Joseon Dynasty. Today, it offers a glimpse into Korea's royal history and architectural grandeur.
Today, it also has a small exhibition of the props used in the hit Kdrama "Dae Janggeum or Jewel in the Palace" because it was used as its filming location. Kdramas fans can also recognize this palace as it was featured in the trending video of Park Bo Gum dancing to "Bombastic" to promote his Kdrama "Love in the Moonlight."
Other Kdramas filmed here:
The Crowned Clown (2019)
My Sassy Girl (2017)

"Suwon Hwaseong Palace, located within the Hwaseong Fortress, offers a glimpse into Korea's royal past. This palace complex served as a secondary royal residence, combining architectural elegance with strategic defense. Explore the restored buildings, pavilions, and landscaped gardens, each reflecting the Joseon Dynasty. The Hwaseong Palace allows you to experience the timeless beauty of Korean royalty.
There was an entrance fee into the palace of 1,500KRW (~S$1.51) when I was there."

"A great alternative to the five grand palaces of Seoul. Suwon’s Hwaseong Haenngung Palace is a must-visit during autumn with vibrant foliage.
This palace was also used as a filming location for a variety of famous K-dramas, such as The Princess’ Man (2011) and Moon Embracing the Sun (2012.)
