Tips and tricks

Stay Hydrated: the Greek sun can be intense, especially in summer. Carry a water bottle and refill it at the numerous public fountains around the city.

Cash is King: while credit cards are widely accepted, some smaller shops and restaurants prefer cash, so carry some euros with you.

Public Transport: Athens has a metro system, although I got to admit I hate it, it is slow, crowded and pretty old, still the best way to move around. Purchase a 24-hour pass for unlimited travel on the metro, buses, and trams.

Cultural Etiquette: Greeks are known for their hospitality. A simple “Efharisto” (thank you) goes a long way in showing your appreciation.

Siesta Time: many shops close in the early afternoon for a few hours. Plan your shopping and sightseeing accordingly.
