"It is located 300 meters from the archeological site of Acropolis and it houses artifacts and objects found in the area and were transferred from the old museum located at the hill of Acropolis to the new one. An architectural competition was held in 2000, with the foundations of the museum being completed in 2004 and the opening being held in 2009.
One of the many interesting parts of the museum is the Parthenon Gallery on the top floor, which is designed to recreate the temple’s frieze, using cast copies of missing sections.
The museum has been featured on lists of the world’s top 10 museums for its contents and design. Recently the underground exhibition opened for the public, giving people another reason to visit the museum.
They offer the option of purchasing tickets online ( https://etickets.tap.gr/), however that is for general admission tickets. If you are in the group of people that could get a discount ticket, like students, it is available only on location at the museum's desk area.
It is a kid friendly museum as there are several books and tours catering to kids and it is wheelchair accessible."
