Day out in Shoreditch: by an East London local

Anne Chua
A day out on foot exploring Shoreditch, from someone who has lived in East London for >5 years. Shoreditch is the new place to be in East London! It’s also known as the “Brooklyn of London”, where you can explore so many different aspects that make London so unique. From wall graffiti and vintage stores to the famous Brick Lane curries and lots of new (and good) restaurants popping up, Shoreditch is definitely the place to explore. I hope you enjoy this guide. Any tips would be appreciated 😊

Beigal Shop

Try out (both) the beigals if you have the appetite (the salt beef bagel and the classic). There’s a long history and healthy competition between these two shops.

Boxpark Shoreditch

Have a shop and drink at Boxpark Shoreditch, it’s sheltered upstairs as well to grab some food and drinks.

BOXPARK Shoreditch
@annechua
Boxpark is right by the Shoreditch overground station and is perfect for food and drinks. From bubble tea, to soft serve, to the Athenian (perhaps one of my favourite Greek places in London), Boxpark is the place to hangout with friends on a Friday evening.

Dishoom Shoreditch
@annechua
When you ask people what to eat in London, without a doubt, Dishoom is always one of the restaurants that is recommended. Be sure to get their unlimited Chai (before 5pm). The different Dishoom branches also have their individual special dishes so check out the online menu.

The famous Dishoom may be one of my all time favourite restaurants in London! Be sure to get their unlimited Chai (before 5pm). They have so much to offer on their menu, it is worth going to try their breakfast naan roll but also their lunch / dinner menu 😋 The different Dishoom branches also have their individual special dishes so checkout the online menu.

Padella Shoreditch
@annechua
This is hands-down my favourite pasta place in the world! Padella opened in 2016 and since then has been the best quality and affordable pasta place in London, with their flagship store at Borough Market and a second branch in Shoreditch. With handmade fresh pastas everyday, padella has the best cacio e pepe, ragu pappardelle, and seasonal pastas as well. I've been so many times that I've tried all of their menu and must say I would always go back for more. A top tip would be to go early, they start a virtual queue at the Borough market store via QR code in front of their store and there are always queues! Or you could book online for the Shoreditch branch which tends to be quieter. This is a MUST visit in London for any pasta lover.

Padella is one of my other favourite restaurants in London! After their extremely successful branch at Borough market, they finally opened a second branch in Shoreditch. Their pastas are freshly handmade everyday. Be sure to try the cacio e pepe, beef Ragu papardelle, and their seasonal pastas.

BAO opened this latest branch in Shoreditch which includes their signature Bao’s as well as some delicious Taiwanese dishes (rice and noodles).

Gloria
@annechua
The flagship Big Mamma group's restaurant, Gloria was an instant hit in London for their aesthetic vibes. Their famous truffle pasta and carbonara (served to you after being tossed in a cheese wheel) are what won over the hearts of so many people. But not only are their pastas delicious, so were their pizzas! Not only that, you've got to save space for their desserts. Like their humongous lemon meringue pie and homemade tiramisu (where they scoop it out for you from their tray). This was truly an excellent experience. Fear not if it is fully booked, they have 3 other branches (Circolo Popolare, Ave Mario, and Jacuzzi)! Be sure to book early for the branch you want.

Gloria by the Big Mamma group was the first of their branches to open in London. Famous for their cheese wheel carbonara, truffle pasta, and giant lemon meringue pie, it is also extremely aesthetic and Insta worthy 🤭
