This budget-friendly guide will walk you through visiting Great Sand Dunes, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and Mesa Verde National Parks, as well as Curecanti National Recreation Area and the Million Dollar Highway.

Dog-friendly trip through Colorado's four national parks and some stops in between :)
I took this trip in mid-October while I was living in Billings, MT. If driving isn't an option, I recommend flying into Denver, renting a car and doing Rocky Mountain NP last.

A two week camping road trip visiting 4 Colorado National Parks and 3 National Monuments. Complete with where I camped on the trip and some local recommendations on places to eat.
This trip is best not planned during the Winter (including late fall and early spring) since snow may make some routes impassable.

In October of 2022, we flew to Iowa to purchase our brand-new travel rig, a Ford F-350 Super Duty Lariat Tremor (follow its build and our adventures on Instagram @traveling_nobodys - end of shameless plug here). After a brief stop in Nebraska to visit family, we high-tailed it through the rest of the Cornhusker state and wound up in the Northeast corner of Colorado, which we deemed to be the beginning of the truck’s shakedown trip home. This was our first time driving through Colorado and we could not have asked for a better time to explore the state’s diverse landscapes, made even more spectacular with the kaleidoscope of fall colors that were on full display. Running from corner (NE) to corner (SW) this route only scratches the surface of what Colorado has to offer and we look forward to finding our way back there sooner rather than later.

Includes 30 recommendations - zip lining, local eateries, canyons, breweries, eclectic stays, and more. If you find yourself near Grand Junction or anywhere in Western Colorado, this loop is for you. I have explored these areas several times, including once on a trip back from Utah.
And let me tell you, if you like mountains and wide-open vistas, western Colorado never gets old.
