Welcome to the Faroe Islands!
September is a fabulous month for those yearning to explore the secluded Faroe Islands. The autumn in Faroe Islands will slowly roll in and the magical colours of the Arctic grass carpet on the mountains will start to show. In early September everything is still lush green but will softly transform to colours of yellow, orange and red as the bright evenings of summer are taken over by the darker nights of autumn.
The Faroe islands are truly a magical place. Located half way between Scotland and Iceland in the Northeast Atlantic, the Faroe Islands are an archipelago of 18 mountainous islands, with a total land area of 1,399 square kilometres, a sea area of 274,000 square kilometres and a population of 50,000. The language of the Faroe Islands is Faroese.
The average day temperature in September is 9° C (48° F). Snow is very unlikely. The temperature will be quit stable never getting below 5° C and above 15° C.
Expect hoovering wind to blow in your face while you are out immersing yourself in the wilderness. Rain can from time to time drop almost horizontally and waterfalls along the mountains might just as well flow upward than drop down.

Scotland is famous for kilts, interesting accents, and spectacular landscapes. I have been to Scotland twice. There is much to see and do, so choose your destinations and make a plan. Edinburgh is a magical place with ancient history and recent artistry. I recommend purchasing one of the hop-on-hop-off tour companies to get around to all the attractions. Reservations are key in this city from the castle to restaurants. Use the local apps to reserve.

If you're planning a trip to Scotland (whether that'd be a trip to the highlands, or just a weekend trip), you have to visit Glasgow! It's not as touristy as Edinburgh, but it certainly is very friendly. I have lived in Glasgow for over 3.5 years now and absolutely love it!
I definitely consider myself a local now and also enjoy exploring different parts of the city, which is why I think my knowledge of Glasgow can help you out with different hotels you can stay at, to make your trip here even better!

We visited Inverness in Scotland in January. We can verify everything you've suspected about windy and rainy Scotland, but in January it's even more fun because it's freezing too. On the plus side, we did have most of the tourist attractions to ourselves. However, we were not as keen to leave the comfort of our warm and dry Airbnb to go and venture out to see some of the natural landscapes.

How to spend 2 days in Edinburgh, Scotland and see A LOT. I did this trip between Christmas and New Years but it can be done at any point.
I enjoyed purchasing the City Sightseeing bus Hop on Hop off tickets that had tickets for the Edinburgh Castle but those tickets can also be bought separately.

If you're looking for a city escape to live your European Summer dream, you've come to the right place! This is my 100% honest opinion of my 10 favorite European cities to visit in Summer.
I see lots and lots of guides out there suggesting Paris (hello, has someone heard of the Olympic Games taking place?), Madrid (if you love 45° weather I guess) or Lisbon (great choice if you want to be 1 or 100 000 tourists). While these are all great destinations year-round, I don't think Summer is the right season to visit them. Personally, I'd go there in Spring or Autumn, not during the high season.
Full disclosure, this is a no Greece, no Italy guide. You'll only find cities that I love, and I think are worth going to discover if you're looking for a short city-escape this Summer.
What will you find in this guide?
