In May 2023, I embarked on a month's long trip with a group of Americans to Thailand where we stayed in various parts of Thailand including Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Hua Hin. From riding elephants, eating the delicious Khao Soy and even climbing caves, me and my friends had an unforgettable time:) I've curated this list of affordable and comfortable hotels in the heart of this old city!

This amazing, penultimate 24-day itinerary was a #wanderlist celebration trip we planned and traveled, as it had always been a dream of ours to spend over 3-weeks touring an area of the world we had yet to experience so to try to gain a greater immersion into the culture. This is a day-by-day itinerary that includes tours, hotel recommendations, restaurant/bar recommendations and tips to traverse through 3 impressive countries and engage with their individual culture, food, nature, and people. This itinerary includes highlights like cruising the Mekong Delta on your own private house boat, attending a Thai boxing match, standing in awe in front of Angkor Wat, scuba diving in the area of the Phi Phi islands, and so much more. This itinerary can be customized and modifed as needed for your travel time, and you can even just focus on one country if you choose. Thailand is filled with AMAZING temples. Even if you're not really into sightseeing/exploring religious wonders, you must at least visit THREE of these! This guide includes temples in: Pattaya Ayutthaya Bangkok Chiang Mai Chiang Rai Phuket Krabi Tips: #1 Cover your knees and shoulders. Keep a scarf/cardigan or anything to do that. If your knees and shoulders are not covered, you will end up renting sarongs from each temple you visit (waste of money and time). #2 In temples, you remove your shoes to enter. Keep a pair of socks with you if you're wearing sandals to quickly pop them on. #3 Stay hydrated! Some temples will have water tanks where you can refill your water bottles. This is a map of all the places I went to on my 3 month backpacking trip. We flew into Bangkok then island hopped in south Thailand for 2 weeks before flying up to Chiang Mai to explore north Thailand for 2 weeks. Next stop was northern Laos for just over 2 weeks where we got the slow boat from Thailand to Luang Prabang. After Laos was an overnight bus to Hanoi in northern Vietnam where we worked our way down to the south over 3 weeks. Finally finishing in Cambodia for 3 weeks and then bus back to Bangkok to fly home. This map includes recommendations of things to do, places to stay and restaurant recommendations too. I have added in information about the visas, currency, how to get around and important tips and tricks we learnt along the way. You can fit in a lot less than you think when backpacking so this is a realistic map of what is achievable in 3 months.
