Edinburgh, also known as Auld Reekie by its residents, is the capital of Scotland. It is the second-most populous city in Scotland, with a population of over 500,000 people. The city is located in southeastern Scotland, on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth estuary.
Edinburgh is a beautiful city with a rich history and culture. The city is known for its medieval Old Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Old Town is home to Edinburgh Castle, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Scotland.
The New Town, which was built in the 18th century, is home to many of the city's Georgian buildings. Edinburgh is also a major center for arts and culture, with many museums, theaters, and art galleries. Scotland is famous for kilts, interesting accents, and spectacular landscapes. I have been to Scotland twice. There is much to see and do, so choose your destinations and make a plan. Edinburgh is a magical place with ancient history and recent artistry. I recommend purchasing one of the hop-on-hop-off tour companies to get around to all the attractions. Reservations are key in this city from the castle to restaurants. Use the local apps to reserve.

How to spend 2 days in Edinburgh, Scotland and see A LOT. I did this trip between Christmas and New Years but it can be done at any point.
I enjoyed purchasing the City Sightseeing bus Hop on Hop off tickets that had tickets for the Edinburgh Castle but those tickets can also be bought separately.

My love to Edinburgh started with architecture aesthetics & local fashion. Even though I'm a food lover, the cuisine is defined more like comfort food than the gourmet. However, you can definitely find any options for your taste & budget from local quirky pubs to fancy fine dining restaurants. Do you know where J.K.Rowling was writing her first legendary chapter of the Harry Potter? Go check it out here now!
Whether it's your first time or you're a loyal city visitor or even a local, you definitely might discover some new spots & hidden gems of Edinburgh worth your time!
This guide includes:
- Areas & Sightseeings
- Coffee & Brunch
- Lunch & Dinner spots
- Local Shopping
- Museums & Galleries
- Local Food
I've visited for Xmas vibes in December during festive season (but the city is charming all year long) & completed my to-do list with all these spots within just 2 days, so you can plan your trip according to your pace of travelling!
Enjoy!

1. J'aime pas conduire de nuit (je suis partie les deux fois en hiver) ;
2. Je suis couillonne de conduire à gauche ;
- Au départ d'Inverness : Skye & Eilean Donan Castle & The Complete Loch Ness Experience

A real crush !
Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is a city of unique charm, combining history, culture and modernity. Known for its impressive medieval architecture and picturesque cobbled streets, it has a majestic yet welcoming atmosphere. Dominated by its famous castle, perched on a volcanic rock, Edinburgh is full of historic monuments, fascinating museums and breathtaking natural landscapes, such as Arthur's Seat, an ancient volcanic hill offering panoramic views over the city.
Its contrasting neighbourhoods, from the historic Royal Mile to the stylish Georgian New Town, reflect the city's rich history, while offering a thriving food and arts scene.
I had the opportunity to admire Edinburgh's beauty on two occasions. On a solo citytrip and then on my train trip to Scotland, where I ended my trip in the capital.
On my two trips, I decided not to hire a car because:
1. I don't like driving at night (I went both times in winter);
2. I'm a coward for driving on the left;
3. I'm stressed about narrow roads (even though I've driven on mountain roads in Crete).
So I chose Rabbie's (https://www.rabbies.com) for three day trips:
- From Edinburgh: Loch Lomond National Park, Kelpies & Stirling Castle
- From Inverness: Skye & Eilean Donan Castle & The Complete Loch Ness Experience
