A hotel room with an epilepsy warning? An omakase course of tea-based cocktails? I can't say for sure these are hidden gems, but after months of seeing everyone and their moms go to Japan since COVID reopening, I can say these were some of my favorite spots that I seldom saw people visit.
Hi! I'm a Brooklyn-based tech journalist-turned-corporate comms editor. Early in my career I spent a stint as a luxury travel planner and writer specializing in Asia, and if I can toot my own horn, I'm often the friend everyone says "wth Natt, how do you find all these cool spots, drop that itin." (Fine, they don't say it like that, but you get the point).
Travel planning is a great hobby for me, and I am writing this as both a journal to remember my trip by and to share with friends, hence the overly familiar tone you might find below. If you discovered this on the Thatch platform, consider giving my guide a shot and hopefully you'll find it useful for an adventuresome visit to Japan!
This guide includes:
✈️ Pre and post-arrival pro-tips
🛌 Hotel, restaurant, and activity suggestions with some personal anecdotes (we vetted any Instagram vs realities!)
📍 Resources, databases, and things to make your journey more efficient and economical
It is not:
📆 A list of daily itineraries
❓ "Beginner's guide to Japan" i.e. how to book JR trains, basic etiquettes, how to transfer from airport to city
🔝 The absolute best of the bests - opinions here totally my own

Reading is one of my favorite pastime activities and there is just something so special about doing it in a coffee shop. Fortunately, there is a plethora of coffee shops in NYC! Unfortunately, finding one with the right atmosphere for reading can be daunting. I’m here to help! This guide, which includes location specifics as well as my own experiences, is organized by neighborhood beginning in South Brooklyn (where I live) and going north to the Upper East Side (where I work). Happy reading!

The best towns to visit when you want to escape NYC for the day—because we’ve all been there.
In 2022, I decided to move to the Hudson Valley for a year! I rented a house around Cold Spring and I’ve gotten to explore so many little towns. The great part is there’s so many things to do just 1-1.5 hours from Grand Central Terminal. Before this, I lived in Brooklyn for 5 years and loved to take day trips and weekend trips to the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Sometimes you just need to get out of the city!
In this guide, you’ll see 3 towns you can take a day trip to, how to get to them, and fun things to do in each of them. They’re all right off MetroNorth stations and have Main Streets that are walkable, so there’s no need to have a car!

• hidden gems and activities to visit the city like a local parent!
This guide covers: Manhattan (Upper West Side, Central Park, Midtown, Greenwich Village, Soho, Meatpacking, Chelsea and Governors Island); Brooklyn ( a small part of Brooklyn close to the Brooklyn Bridge).
You can pick and choose from this itinerary. It's just suggestion, to enjoy the city without feeling at the same time too overwhelmed. Everyday ends with an activity to chill out and enjoy your holiday together with your family.

Maybe you’re wondering about where to stay in NYC: I would suggest to find an hotel in Manhattan.
• The west side is charming. In the Village/Soho/Chelsea/Meatpacking you’ll find plenty of options, maybe not the cheapest ones. If you choose to stay a little bit more uptown, you’ll be able to find better deals and enjoy Central Park.
• Midtown is sometimes more practical and convenient, but sometimes too crowded.
In any case, I would suggest you not to go “too uptown”, to be able to visit Brooklyn without being too far away.

This is a 1-day itinerary around Manhattan to make sure you visit as much places as possibile during the day, starting from south of Central park and heading south until reaching Brooklyn bridge 🌉.
It is perfect for you if you have a layover in New York or if it is the starting point of a longer trip.
BUT it could be very useful also as a general guide to split your visit to New York in 2-3 days, dedicating each day to a different part of the city 🏙.
We suggest you to explore the city on foot🚶🏻to really feel all those New York vibes, of course following our guide.
In 8-10 hours you should be able to visit all the places reported in the guide and have a nice lunch, but probably you won't be able to visit anything from the inside (that is a good excuse to come back to New York another time 😉).
So here it is: your full guide to experience New York in 1 day only... and believe us: it will be more than enough to fall in love with this stunning city! 🇺🇸

Welcome to New York, often referred to as New York City (NYC). NY is the most populous city in the United States. It is a global hub of finance, media, culture, and fashion. The city is located at the southern tip of the state of New York, on a large natural harbor.
New York City consists of five boroughs: Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Each borough has its own unique character and history.

I love food & New York arguably has some of the best food in the world. This map holds all of my absolute favorite places to eat in the city. These are the places I frequent & always recommend to friends when they visit.
Most of these recommendations are in Manhattan, but there are a couple in other boroughs including the Bronx & Brooklyn. And as I said, more will come. The genre of these restaurants ranges from nicer to quick grab-and-go spots, with options for Mexican, Mediterranean, American, Malaysian, Cuban, Jamaican, Latin-inspired, & Italian food - plus a couple of food hall options & doughnuts!
This is a living map. By living, I mean that I will continue adding more places to this map when I come across them & you'll automatically get the updates!
It's truly a map of my favorite places to eat in the City, so if you've followed me for a while & just want to check out my favorite spots, this map is for you!

Epic 3 Night Guide - Less touristy than the rest!
Experience the best of NYC like a local
Whether you’re planning a couples getaway or a girls weekend, take in the City like most tourists don’t. You won’t find the most famous tourist attractions in this itinerary and we’re skipping Times Square all together! You’ve seen it enough on TV.. and I swear, you won’t miss it.
Instead, we’re slowing down, taking it all in and immersing ourselves into one of the greatest cities in the world as if you were a local!
This is a near replica itinerary of a trip I took with my husband to celebrate my 30th birthday, and it was truly epic! Only thing missing was a show on Broadway - which you should definitely fit in where you can and was my only regret on this truly incredible trip.
Pack your bags, because you’re heading to…
Greenwich Village - The Upper East Side - Brooklyn - Chelsea
