I am so excited to share this road trip itinerary with you! This road trip is my absolute favourite road trip I've ever done. It's a very busy trip, filled with adventure, beautiful nature, and tons of local towns. This fully loaded guide includes a day-by-day itinerary complete with things to do in each city, hiking recommendations, places to eat and camp.

Lake Louise & Moraine Lake have been some of my favourite places to hike since my first visit in 2016. The breathtaking turquoise lakes and surrounding mountains provide the perfect day for your visit to Banff National Park. "The Icefields Parkway is one of the world’s most scenic drives, offering up everything from ancient glaciers and turquoise lakes to mountain-framed valleys and raging waterfalls. If there ever was a road trip that is more about the journey than the destination, it is the Icefields Parkway drive. In only 233 kilometres, you’ll experience what feels like an endless amount of stunning natural wonders as you drive the Icefields Parkway through the heart of Banff and Jasper national parks." Park Pass: You will need to purchase a park pass to drive the Icefields Parkway, since it goes through two national parks. You can buy one at the entrances to Banff and Jasper national parks, as well as at the two booths on the Icefields Parkway (just outside of Lake Louise and the Jasper townsite). Best to start this road trip with a full tank of gas since there is only one gas station on the Icefields Parkway (at Saskatchewan Crossing, which is 80 km from Lake Louise and 153 km from Jasper). Sharing my personal list of 200 local spots in over 23 Kootenay communities! The Kootenay region is a haven for anyone seeking recreation and relaxation, who wants something a tad quieter than Banff and Canmore. Located just West of the Southern Canadian Rockies, the Kootenays have charming small towns, jaw-dropping landscapes, friendly people, a relaxed energy and more trails than one could possible explore in a lifetime. As a local who lives here, and has travelled throughout the East and West Kootenays, there are so many incredible places/things/spots/shops in this region that deserve the same hype as their Alberta mountain town neighbours. The Kootenay's are just as cool (but quieter and more affordable)! Included in my list of 200 favourite local Kootenay spots, you'll find.. - Local Coffee Shops - Local Shops & Specialty Stores - Local Accommodations - Local Restaurants & Cafes - Local activities, trails and must see's* ⭐️ = My #1 must see in the community! Everywhere listed in the guide is a place I have personally been, or a place that I have on my list to visit as quickly as possible (but that I know other locals visit and love). * All the trails, activities and recreation recommendations are beginner/family friendly, no multi-day or difficult hikes here. If you're really into a specific sport, this guide will really help shape the rest of your trip to the area outside of your hike/ride/skiing. The Kootenays are a true paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, active families and nature lovers - an incredible destination to explore for all.

So, you're going to the Canadian Rockies? After living in Montana for many years, I knew and expected the terrain to be quite similar. I was in for quite the surprise when this area of Canada turned out to be one of the most beautiful places I've EVER visited. Below you'll find my favorite stops (separated by location) that we found along the way from Edmonton to Calgary (and a few stops over in BC!), along with tips on the area and an interactive map. I've included the hotels used personally, as well as some additional top rated stays at several price points. I've also included some stops that we didn't make it to this first time around, but we will definitely be heading back for them! Quick Disclaimer: Respect nature and wildlife. Wildlife is WILD and nature is natural. Treat them as such. Leave no trace when outdoors, and respect wildlife by giving them space. Locations included: 🏔️ Edmonton 🏔️ Jasper National Park 🏔️ Banff National Park 🏔️ Banff, Alberta (town) 🏔️ Lake Louise (town) 🏔️ Canmore, Alberta 🏔️ Calgary, Alberta I've added quite a few hotel options, as they all book up extremely quickly and are not cheap. I did highlight the ones we stayed at as well as provided descriptions of those! Pssst. Above is the exact route we drove also! We drove up from Montana, but flying in to Edmonton and renting a car or RV to drive this itinerary down through to Calgary is an awesome option. If you wish to continue this trip further like we did, drive down to Yoho and Kootenay National Parks in BC and Glacier National Park in Montana from Calgary! I have a separate guide for Glacier, but highly recommend if you have the time! I have listed a variety of different things from nature and hiking to food and craft beer to a few select "other" options (that don't involve hiking). However, this guide primarily focuses on the true beauty of nature in Canada. You won't run out of options! We found the Parks in Canada to be extremely accessible, dog friendly, and overall pretty clean. The red Adirondack chairs were the coolest thing, and I'm not going to explain that... You'll see what I mean.

Day 1-3 Vancouver Day 4-6 Jasper National Park and Icefields Parkway Day 7-10 Moraine Lake, Lake Louise and Banff National Park

If you are Adventurous this itinerary takes you to three Hot Springs in a single day. If not then we easily break up the drive time so you can soak longer. Purchasing National Park Passes will allow you access to RedStreak Campground in Radium Hot Springs and all the wonderful stops between Banff and Radium.
