My family of 4 stayed in Paris for seven nights, the Normandy for five nights, and Loire Valley for four nights as part of a longer 50 day planes, trains, and automobiles trip around Europe.

A little history on this historic journey : to trace the route of the Olympic marathon, the organisation made the choice strong to be inspired by the "Women's March" of October 1789, one of the founding events from today's France. The Olympic marathon draws its energy and her inspiration in the women's march, one of the great collective fighters who shaped the history and values of France contemporary. On October 5 and 6, 1789, merchants from the Hall, shopkeepers and workers from the suburbs popular gathering in front of the Hôtel de City in Paris to demand bread and weapons. Between 6,000 and 7,000 Parisians, joined by the men cross Paris to go to Versailles and bring the king back to the Tuileries. This that day, Louis XVI finally agreed to ratify the universal declaration of human rights and of the Citizen.

And while nothing hits like the first croissant fresh off a plane in Paris, there are some really great local, authentic options when it comes to French cafes and bakeries in Charleston. This is probably a combined result of Charleston and France’s shared history and the fact the Holy City is now a top foodie destination. Charleston’s French influence dates back to the late 1600s and early 1700s when a large group of French Huguenots fled France and settled in this area. This French influence is still apparent in the city of Charleston’s historic architecture, and there is still a beautifully preserved French Quarter downtown (featured in my hidden alley walking tour), which is where the majority of the best French cafes are located in Charleston. This is my curated list of the 5 best spots to enjoy authentic French pastries and soak up some authentic French ambiance while visiting downtown Charleston, South Carolina.

If you're looking for a city escape to live your European Summer dream, you've come to the right place! This is my 100% honest opinion of my 10 favorite European cities to visit in Summer.
