What people say

Natt Garun
"I know you're gonna want a refund after seeing me suggest actually going to the airport as an attraction, but if you're flying into Hokkaido, the airport offers incredible exhibits, a bomb ramen food court (must try the crab ramen!), and even an onsen."
"Most common way to get to Sapporo is to go to New Chitose Airport if you are trying to get to Sapporo. Like many of the big Airports in Japan, this has duty free shopping, restaurants and entertainment Entertainment: Doraemon Sky Park "
"The domestic terminal in Chitose is unlike normal duty-free shopping, it is essentially an amalgamation of artisan Hokkaido snacks and food items. It is simply fun just walking around. "

A hotel room with an epilepsy warning? An omakase course of tea-based cocktails? I can't say for sure these are hidden gems, but after months of seeing everyone and their moms go to Japan since COVID reopening, I can say these were some of my favorite spots that I seldom saw people visit. Hi! I'm a Brooklyn-based tech journalist-turned-corporate comms editor. Early in my career I spent a stint as a luxury travel planner and writer specializing in Asia, and if I can toot my own horn, I'm often the friend everyone says "wth Natt, how do you find all these cool spots, drop that itin." (Fine, they don't say it like that, but you get the point). Travel planning is a great hobby for me, and I am writing this as both a journal to remember my trip by and to share with friends, hence the overly familiar tone you might find below. If you discovered this on the Thatch platform, consider giving my guide a shot and hopefully you'll find it useful for an adventuresome visit to Japan! This guide includes: ✈️ Pre and post-arrival pro-tips 🛌 Hotel, restaurant, and activity suggestions with some personal anecdotes (we vetted any Instagram vs realities!) 📍 Resources, databases, and things to make your journey more efficient and economical It is not: 📆 A list of daily itineraries ❓ "Beginner's guide to Japan" i.e. how to book JR trains, basic etiquettes, how to transfer from airport to city 🔝 The absolute best of the bests - opinions here totally my own

An efficient itinerary that packs in the best of Central and Eastern Hokkaido by car🚙, taking advantage of the smooth roads and plentiful rest stops. Come see for yourself the beautiful pink moss and tulip fields 🌷, stand in awe of the majestic Shiretoko pass 🏔️, spot a pod of killer whales in the Rausu Sea 🌊 and make many more unforgettable memories. Includes: 📍 7 locations, including Sapporo, Otaru, Shiretoko, and Lake Akan 🌟 24 attractions 🏨 6 Hotel recommendations 🍜 19 Food recommendations 🚙 Recommended rest stops (“Michi-no-Eki”) 💡 Suggestions for how to tweak the itinerary for different seasons (this itinerary is ideal for May-July) I spent close to 100 hours doing thorough research on a driving route that would cover the usual tourist must-sees in Hokkaido as well as the less-traveled Shiretoko peninsula. It was not easy finding information on Eastern Hokkaido online so I’m so excited to share with you the guide I wish I had. I’m confident this guide will save hours of your precious time and help you travel with confidence in Central and Eastern Hokkaido. *Remember to download the Thatch app for easy access to this itinerary on the go! 😊 💬Why choose a paid guide? Time is precious to all of us - busy professionals, parents with young children, caregivers, anyone really - a comprehensive guide allows even the busiest of us to enjoy a well-deserved vacation without the stress of planning everything by yourself. You're also more assured that every recommendation is included because I genuinely believe in it and not for the commission. Only looking for hotel recommendations?
