"Litlanesfoss and Hengifoss were sneaky favorites of ours and are well worth the slight detour from the ring road. Parking for both of the waterfalls is the same and free. You can either walk up the left side where you parked, or on the right side next to the Hengifoss food truck as they intersect a little further up. Speaking of which, the path up is relatively steep, but overall not too challenging. The round trip is about 3.1 miles. About halfway up you will come across Litlanesfoss--the larger of the two. You can view it from above from either side of the trail, depending on which side of the loop you choose to start. But Hengifoss is the one worth hiking to. This waterfall is surrounded by red and black lava formations and has a crystal blue pool beneath.
Cost: Free, unless you get food from the Hengifoss food truck!
Parking: Free + bathrooms "

" After 1.2 km from the parking lot, you will come to Litlanesfoss, a small plunge waterfall flanked by columnar basalts (similar to Svartifoss). The trail gets steeper from here, until you reach a view of Hengifoss and an information sign at 2.2 km. To get to Hengifoss from here, continue on the trail to the left of the river and cross the small stream. The trail terminates near the base of Hengifoss with great views of the falls."

" You will pass this waterfall on the hike up to Hengifoss. What makes this waterfall interesting, is the small basin in the upper part of the fall, which is surrounded by beautiful columnar basalt rocks. "
