"Lukova is a coastal village on the Albanian Riviera and has two main beaches, which are a few kilometers away from the village on the hill. The main beach of Lukova is called “Cave Beach” (Plazhi i Shpelles) and this is where you’ll find most of the facilities. North from Cave Beach, there is another beach which is more quiet and has two campsites.
Lukova is ideal if you want to escape from the busier beaches on the Albanian Riviera. The beaches are pretty large with plenty of space to get away from other people and with the town a few kilometers away from the beach you are mainly surrounded by nature. Every year the magical environment of Lukova Beach is also the decor of The Element Festival.
Lukova Beach can best be reached by car and is a 25 kilometer drive from Saranda. If you arrive in Lukova you take the first exit to the left, following the sign “Shpella” and you just follow the paved road down the hill for about 4 kilometers. If you want to go to the other, more quiet beach in the north, you follow the same road, but take a right turn after about 500 meters. Be aware that, unlike the road to the main beach, this road is unpaved and can be a bit challenging to drive.
If you don’t have your own transportation you can rent a car or motor cycle, or arrange a taxi to get you there. There are also direct buses to Lukova but you can take any bus in the direction of Himara or Vlora to get dropped of in the village of Lukova. From there you’d have to walk all the way down to reach the beach.
Although Lukova Beach is more quiet than most beaches in the riviera, you can still find all necessary facilities. There are several restaurants with toilets and changing facilities and you can rent beach beds with umbrellas. The beach is part public and part privately operated so you can also just bring your own towel and find a spot for free. If you want to stay the night and wake up at the beach, you can do so at one of the campsites. There are no hotels directly on the beach and also no water sports so you can heave a nice quiet time here."
