Playa Bacocho

"Playa Bacocho, a beautiful beach located on the north end of Puerto Escondido, is not the ideal spot for swimming due to strong waves and currents, but it is home to the Vive Mar Turtle Release Camp. This nonprofit conservation initiative plays a vital role in protecting endangered sea turtles by collecting and incubating eggs to prevent poaching. You can participate in the unique experience of releasing a baby turtle into the ocean at 5PM every evening for just 150 MXN — a memorable and meaningful activity. If you're planning to join the release, arrive early (around 4PM) to secure your spot as there aren't necessarily always enough turtles to go around. It’s a perfect way to combine relaxation with a hands-on contribution to protecting marine life. Beyond the turtle release center, Playa Bacocho is also home to Club Bacocho. This beach club features a restaurant, padel court, and a large pool, which is a welcome option since the sea here can be a bit rough for swimming. For a fee (that honestly seems to constantly be changing), you can enjoy the pool, making it a great spot to comfortably spend the day if you're willing to splash the cash for easy access to amenities with a great view of the ocean."

"EVA'S TIP❗: This beach is a bit difficult to reach by foot - I know it because I did it, so it is not impossible, but it's not the best way to do it. The beach is huge and the rocky part is beautiful, though in my opinion, it has nothing special. In case you want to release a sea turtle, you can do that in Playa Bacocho ($paying). "
